St Pat's News

October 23, 2019

At St Patrick’s Parish Primary School we hold the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school.

From The RE Leader - Peter Sanderson

As we continue through World Mission Month, we accept the invitation from Catholic Mission to participate in Socktober in the spirit of the movement’s guiding principles: Compassion, Respect, Love, Enlightenment, Balance and Joy. Together we pray:

O God, you sent your Son into the world as the true light.

Pour out the Spirit he promised that we may light the world with justice,  joy, and hope.

We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son,

Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Mission Activities

Mission Activities - Help us to “Sock It To Poverty”

Yesterday, our Mini Vinnies group organised a Mission Day to fundraise and raise awareness for the work of Catholic Mission in Ghana. Each class came out to participate in a game of Sockball in which they used a variety of soccerballs, ranging from brand new ones to “sockballs” made from recycled materials, similar to what the children in Ghana would use. We raised $175.

If anyone would like to make a further donation to Catholic Mission, place your donation in an envelope marked Catholic Mission and leave it at the school office. Thank you.

Wellbeing

Our Year 6 and Foundation students spent an hour together after swimming on Friday. The Year 6 students chose a picture story book to read to their buddy. When they had finished the book the students worked together to draw a picture about their book. The Year 6 buddies really enjoy the time that they spend with their Foundation buddy.

Missing - Gardening Tools from Saturday's Working Bee

There are some gardening implements that were missing after the working bee including garden shears (with wooden handles), secateurs, a trowel and a weed puller. These are personal items, not school equipment, so everyone at the working bee is asked to check the equipment they took home and please return these items to the school if found.

Just a reminder that all students should be wearing their summer uniform. If your child is out of uniform for any reason, a note should be given to their class teacher.

No Parking at the School Crossing

In an effort to improve child safety in and around the school crossing, the Moyne Shire has erected a number of "No Standing" signs near the crossing, which means no parking is permitted in the area between the signs. Please be mindful of this when dropping off and picking up your children so that you are not fined.

The office is open from 8.30am - 4.00pm each day.

There is no supervision for students before 8.40am. Teachers use the time prior to the doors opening for setting up for the day, therefore they are not available to supervise students. Students who arrive at school prior to 8.40am need to wait at the side door near the hall until the doors are opened.

The bell for the start of the day rings at 8.55am, any student arriving after this time needs to be signed in using the iPad at the office.

The bell for the end of the day rings at 3.20pm. If for any reason you are going to be later than 3.30pm to collect your child/children, please contact the school office.

Yr 3/4ML - Are you ready for change?

At the beginning of this term, the children in 3/4 were lucky enough to receive a visit from the one and only “David Attenborough”. The children were able to ask Sir David about his many documentaries and gain insight into how people can bring about positive change to our environment.

He challenged the 3/4s to be environmental changemakers in the world. To do this, our work in inquiry, religion, ICT and writing will tie in together to create a comprehensive unit.  The students will research change markers in the past and present, become filmmakers and spread awareness for a cause that is important to them.

We look forward to seeing you at our end term learning showcase where you can learn from our budding activists!
