A Message from our Principal

Week 8, Term 2

COVID Update

It was so nice to finally be able to assemble as a whole school group again on Monday morning this week – even if it was only for a short time! Little by little we are slowly getting back some of the things that make a ‘normal’ week at school. We are starting to lock in some dates for school events in Term 3 and will release these as soon as we are sure they will be able to go ahead. Keep an eye on the Skoolbag App and Facebook for updates.

Sharing Food

One of the most disappointing restrictions we are still bound to follow are those around the sharing of food between students. Sadly, for those having birthdays during this time (and this includes me!), we are still not in a position to share cupcakes/cakes for birthdays. We know this will be a sad for some of our little people, but we are committed to making sure we do what we can to avoid the possible spread of anything sinister. Special thanks to the parents who have been so understanding of this situation.

K-2 Playground

Unless we have bad weather, our new K-2 playground is scheduled to be constructed tomorrow! It is our hope that we will be able to play on it some time during Week 9. Having this new addition to our school grounds will require some planning in relation to school time playground supervision and the potential use of the equipment outside of school hours. We can’t wait to let the kids play on it, but we will need to ensure that everyone is aware of their responsibilities in supervising its safe use.

Sick Bay Procedures

During a school day students present at the sick bay for a wide variety of reasons. Many sicknesses and injuries only require very basic treatment, the details are recorded, and if the student is not distressed or unhappy they return to class or the playground. If the administration staff have any concerns or doubts about the extent of a sickness or injury they will call parents or emergency contacts so that we can get background information or advice on how to proceed. In even a suspected emergency situation, 000 would be called immediately. Please know that all calls to parents are purely to ensure you are informed, and it is certainly not our intention to interrupt your day with minor details, more to ensure that our duty of care is met.

Have a great week everyone,

Matt Barr

Principal

Changes to the opportunity class placement process for 2020 Year 4 students

The 2021 Year 5 opportunity class placement was put on hold in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation.

We now have a revised and simplified timeline for the OC placement process to ensure that students and families can have certainty about their placement as soon as possible.

The changes include:

  • A new date for online applications. Parents must apply between 9 June 2020 and 26 June 2020. Late applications cannot be accepted.
  • A new test date - Wednesday, 16th September 2020.

To ensure fair and consistent assessment of students across New South Wales, students will be offered places based only on their test results this year - there will be no school assessment scores.

There will also be no opportunity for appeals given the tight timeframes.
