Term 1 Week 8 eNewsletter

We are in some uncertain times at the moment when it comes to school operations and the COVID-19 virus. Thank you for keeping up to date with the current advice that is coming home regarding changes to our school routines and 'social distancing' measures. Whilst some of these changes may cause disappointment, we have to act in the interests of our students' and staff's safety and well-being. There is potential for further changes as the situation unfolds.

Please ensure you are a member of the Skoolbag App and/or the P&C's Facebook page so you can keep up to date with current advice and notifications. If we were to temporarily cease operations, that is where you would be notified.

P&C Meeting is Wednesday 18th March at 6pm. This meeting will occur in an online format. Details to be advised. We will be discussing the P&C's upcoming events and associated fundraising. A major item for discussion is that the Canteen Coordinator position remains vacant. Unless we get a volunteer, we will need to discuss our limited options moving forwards. If you are interested in the Canteen Coordinators role, please see Mr Gaden.

Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group

On Tuesday 10th March, nine of our senior Indigenous students attended the Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group and Aboriginal Education Team Leadership Day hosted by Cessnock High School. They participated in a range of activities, including designing a Cessnock Zone PSSA representative shirt, reflecting on Aboriginal songs and quotes, watching an inspiring video featuring Stan Grant and learning about the meaning of 'lore'.

I received a phone call from Cessnock High's organising teacher saying how great our Ellalong students were. Congratulations boys and girls!

All students received a special certificate at assembly on Friday 13th March.

Harmony Day

We will be acknowledging Harmony Day and National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence on Thursday 19th March. Students will be participating in a range of activities, celebrating cultural diversity, inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging. We ask that all students wear orange on the day.

Regional Soccer

Congratulations to Riley R, Ryder I and Lawson B who attended the Zone soccer trials and were selected in the Cessnock Zone Boys Soccer team.

Congratulations to Macy L who was selected in the Cessnock Zone Girls Soccer team.

Unfortunately, with the cancellation of sports at this point in time, it is unclear as to what opportunities these students may get to represent their school and zone, however we congratulate them on being selected in the teams.

School Sport

Term 1 - Unfortunately, the Term 1 cricket program has been cancelled at this point in time. We will continue with class based games and sports.

Term 2- At this stage, we are assuming the highly popular Dance 2B Fit program will start in Term 2 Week 2. We will make definite decisions closer to then

Did you know, that you can also hand in banking for your other children? Pre-school and High School siblings are welcome to conduct their banking through us.
