This Sunday’s Gospel tells the story of Mary of Magdala and some of Jesus’ disciples arriving to the tomb of Jesus to find he was not there. Jesus’ tomb was empty. It had even been cleaned up. The linen burial cloths were folded and rolled up neatly. Everything was left in order and taken care of. Jesus was clearly finished with this grave. No more of this ‘death business’ for him. He left it totally behind, and was fully alive, never to know the sufferings of death again. The celebration of the resurrection of Jesus is the climax of the Church’s life marking Christ’s victory over sin and death. The season of Easter extends 50 days after Easter Sunday, closing with Pentecost Sunday.
Assessment Portfolios will go home today so please take time to go through the portfolio with your child and then provide feedback on the reflection sheet provided. The portfolio and reflection sheet are to be returned to your child’s teacher by the end of Week 1, Term 2 (Friday 28th April).
Term 2 commences Wednesday the 26th of April. Monday the 24th of April is a Catholic Leave Day so the school will be closed. Tuesday the 25th of April is the ANZAC Day Public Holiday. Enjoy your break!!

Please take five minutes out of your day to fill out the Wild Poppy Canteen Feedback Survey on Skoolbag under forms. The survey closes 20 April.
An ANZAC Day Service will be held at Cummins Theatre on Wednesday the 25th of April with our head boy and girl, Mitchell and Chloe, representing St Mary’s at 11:00am.
On Wednesday the 26th of April, we will be having an ANZAC Service in the undercover area at 8.45am for students in PP - Year Six.
Thank you to all our wonderful students and staff who shared a lovely Holy Week throughout this last week of Term 1. Our Liturgy on Tuesday, Easter Bonnet Parade on Wednesday and today’s free dress day with proceeds going to Project Compassion is a culmination of a child-focused community coming together with Christ at the centre of everything we do. We raised a total of $631.50 for Project Compassion from our free dress day and the money box donations. What a fantastic effort!!
Congratulations to the MacKillop Faction who won the faction token count for Term One. Each time a child displays their faction or school values out in the playground – the duty teacher gives them a token. Mitchell and Chloe shared the token count at Monday’s assembly, which was very close, but MacKillop came out on top! This term’s prize was 10 minutes extra play after recess. Coincidently, MacKillop won in Term Four in 2022 and was not given a prize and therefore had double the amount of play. Well done, MacKillop!
Congratulations to Steph on the announcement that her and Sam are expecting a baby later in the year! We are very excited for their growing family and will continue to keep them in our prayers.
We have now advertised for two teacher positions for commencement in Term 3. If you know of anyone capable and interested in this opportunity, please share this link.
Please note there will be no canteen in Week 1 of Term 2. Canteen will resume in Week 2 with lots of delicious food on offer to get you through those winter days!
As Term 1, concludes it is fitting to thank the many of you who have made St Mary’s School a very special place for our students this term. Thank you to our parish for their support, to parents and carers who demonstrate a strong partnership with our school, to the extended community of which we are a part of, to staff whose commitment to our students is evident daily and to our students for the way they support each other to learn and to develop friendships. It has been a great term of learning and growth!
Holidays are a fantastic time to unwind, spend some quality family time together and take a break from the routines of life. It is also a great time to re-establish some good habits such as reading together as a family. Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and helps them to further understand written words across a variety of learning areas.
Term 1 concludes today. Term 2 will commence on Wednesday 26th April where students will be required to wear winter uniform. Wearing the uniform correctly assists students to develop a sense of pride in themselves, their families and their school.
Over the holidays we will celebrate Easter and ANZAC Day. Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus on the third day after his crucifixion and marks the triumph of good over evil, sin and death. Easter is the most important holiday on the Christian calendar. ANZAC Day occurs on April 25th. It is a commemoration of the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli on the 25th April, 1915. We reflect on the impact of war, conflict and peacekeeping operations in Australia’s history and pray for those involved in all wars, their families and for peace.
God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,
Mr Andy DiCarlantonio
Principal
Wow! This term has just flown by. We’ve settled into the routines of Year Six and the responsibilities that go with being the senior year group. We waited patiently for week 7 to arrive so we could get our leavers shirts and head off to camp.
One of the best things about camp is the opportunity to challenge ourselves in new ways, such as abseiling or kayaking in the ocean. It’s a time to develop important life skills and learn to work together as a team, to problem solve and communicate effectively. We recently shared our adventure with the whole school during assembly and hope that future students have the same wonderful experience we did.
Have a safe and relaxing Easter holiday.
The Easter Bonnet Parade was a great success yesterday with an amazing array of Easter Bonnets on display!! Thankyou to all the students and their helpers for going to such a huge effort to produce their fantastic bonnets. Also a big thankyou to "Easter Bunny" for hopping in to deliver a treat to the children, staff and visitors. He surely was a sight to behold lol!!
