Hello, Giinagay, Hai
Dear Parents and Carers
The NSW Department of Education has student’s health and wellbeing as our first priority and these unprecedented times are challenging for our whole community.
The NSW Government has taken significant steps to increase restrictions across the State in a bid to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
These steps involve measures for Education.
The Premier has announced from Tuesday 24 March parents are encouraged to keep their children at home. We ask all parents who are able to care for their children at home to please do so. This will also help support the implementation of social distancing measures within our school settings.
Schools are classified as essential services and as such will remain open to help our essential workers continue to provide the service to our community. Our doors remain open and no child will be turned away.
For the few students who continue to attend school, variations to normal routines and structures will occur.
The school will be providing learning materials to students to continue with learning while at home.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we support our communities through this unprecedented health situation.
The newsletter, our Facebook page and our Skoolbag app will keep you informed of cancellations and further directives from the Department.
Thanks, yaarri yaraang, terima kasih.
Bu Gillian

Did you know that students in 2/3/4, 4/5 and 5/6 all have an Indonesian lesson with a teacher in Bali once a week? After reviewing the program, we are now trialling a new way to deliver these online classes from IALF to try to increase student engagement. SHPS now has a brand new ‘ComBox’ in the library which provides a big, interactive screen for all sorts of digital learning. We will make use of this for our digital lessons once a week, breaking each class into two groups for maximum participation. One group will have speaking and listening practise with the teacher in Bali via ‘Zoom’, while the other group practises language at their own pace using an iPad App and headphones. After 20 minutes the groups then swap. After our first lesson with the 4/5 class trying this format all students agreed this was a much more enjoyable way of learning. Here is a photo of one of the virtual lessons with Bu Dayu in action.
Kindergarten and 4/5 had a fun time learning Tai Chi with Pak Adam.
