Welcome Back to preschool

As the summer holidays draw to a close, it is with great excitement that we wait to welcome our children back to preschool. We are looking forward to catching up with familiar faces and hearing about what fun summer has provided and also meeting new friends who are starting at preschool this year. It is such an honour that we can work together to develop your child in a holistic manner throughout all areas of our preschool program.

Our first day back to school for children is Wednesday 30th January 2020.

Throughout the first term we will discuss with each family goals that we as educators will have as a focus to work on with your child. Your input is invaluable. We will be documenting the children’s learning through floor books and you are encouraged to enjoy these books whenever you have time to stop and look.

To start of our year we will be looking at ourselves and our families. As staff we hold this as a priority as we want and need to build up trust with each and every family. We would like to invite all families to bring in a photo of their family. Please always feel you can make a time to discuss with the educators in your child’s room how your child has been throughout the day or discuss anything that may be concerning you.

A few reminders:

· Please label all of your child’s belongings.

· Please only bring water to school for your child to drink.

· Please provide nude food in your child lunchbox.

This is in accordance with our sustainability policy.

· Please visit the office to purchase two wet bags for your child.

· Your child will be given their own preschool hat which will stay at preschool.

We hope you have all had a fantastic new year and we are looking forward with excitement to when you and your child begin their journey at Katoomba Leura Preschool.

Fire Season

The dreadful fire season we have experienced this year has highlighted the importance of being fully prepared for the bushfire season. We here at preschool have prepared for the fire season with bushfire drills, updating our supply boxes and reviewing our bushfire policy. We will continue with drills when the preschool year begins to ensure we are ready and organised should another emergency situation occur. We encourage our families to consider updating their own fire plans and familiarising yourselves with guidance provided by the RFS in relation to fire advisories. We also ask that you ensure that you have downloaded the Skoolbag app as this may be our primary form of communication should the telephone lines be clogged or not operational during an emergency.

Vacancies for our Committee

Should you wish to join our Management Committee, please contact Alison to discuss which role you might prefer and to receive an information pack. Our meeting are generally monthly here at preschool and we are happy to work around your schedule. We would welcome any new members with open arms! Our AGM will take place in March, we'd love to see you there.

Free Food for our Families

One of the nice things about being part of our beautiful Blue Mountain's community is the support we receive from local businesses. Each week during school terms, we are able to provide an array of free food from Baker's Delight and Earth Recovery for our families in need.

Every Friday morning after 8.30am fresh baked goods, a huge selection of breads and rolls and a wide variety of other products re available for our families to collect. Please bring your own bags and be early! A reminder that because of Health Department regulations all food must handled with tongs, which are provided, and children must remain outside the staffroom.

Things to remember

Drop off your new enrolment form for the year at the office before the beginning of term
If you have a health care card, be sure the office has a copy to allow you to receive reduced fees
Make sure your child's up to date immunisation record had been supplied to preschool
Ensure you have advised staff about any allergies, asthma requirements or other matters which impact your child
Remember, preschool is a nut free zone. We have a number of children with severe allergies and ask that you are careful not to include nuts or nut products in your child's lunchbox. We also have a child with sesame seed allergy and ask that youedxclude these from your child's lunch box
