This week, Mossop Construction have commenced placing the precast walls and over the next few weeks we will see a big change on our building site. They will continue to do all possible to minimise disruption to traffic, although today, SA Water needed to complete work for the new site so I thank you for your understanding.
Mid-Year Reports
Teachers are currently busy writing mid-year Reports which will be sent home on Tuesday 5th of July (Week 10). These mid-year Reports are a further insight as to how your child is progressing. I have the privilege to read and sign all the Reports, gaining an understanding not only of the children’s academic result, but also their effort. Their effort is important as we encourage all our children to work at their best and to demonstrate a commitment to their learning.
We are blessed that the children at Whitefriars Catholic School, in general, show a lot of commitment towards their learning and have respect for teachers and support staff. This is an indication of how well the families in our school community establish good routines, ensure that reading occurs each evening and take an interest in their child’s learning. In partnership, school and home, are helping to shape respectful and hard-working children.
Recess and Lunchtime Activities
You may be aware that our children have opportunities to participate in several lunchtime activities. We have activities in Science, Chess, Mathematics and board games. This week, the Student Representative Council (SRC) have initiated a new activity each Thursday at Recess in the Mary MacKillop Centre called ‘Just Dance’. This activity will be open for children in all year levels and will promote exercise and a sense of fun. I want to acknowledge our SRC students for this wonderful initiative.
Family Mass
Following a couple of years of COVID disruptions, last Saturday we re-commenced Family Mass on the second Saturday of the month at the 6pm Mass at Mater Dei. I took the opportunity to share what is currently happening in our school with the worshipping community. As you may be aware, our school is part of the Croydon Park Parish which also includes two other schools: St Margaret Marys’ and St Patrick’s Schools, the three worshipping communities and in our Parish educates over 1000 children.
I want to take the opportunity to thank Joel K (3B) and Ivana C (4G) for reading the Prayers of Intercession. We also had a number of other children attend: Eric, Aston, Hunter, Dion L, Jaden, Patrich and Rafaela. We would love to have more children read at Mass on each second Saturday of the month.
Kind regards,
Frank Congedi
