Term 4 Weeks 3 and 4

Principal’s Message

Today we welcomed the 2020 Kindergarten cohort and their families to our school. Some parents are familiar faces who already have students at our school and others are just beginning their school journey as their eldest child hits that magical school age. It is a wonderful time  and I always feel privileged to welcome these parents into our community and talk with pride about the accomplishments of our wonderful school. The partnerships between the school and parents is so important for a child's development.

Remember if you have concerns, please talk to your classroom teacher. They have a wealth of experience in working with children and are only happy to provide advice, support or just an ear to hear your concerns. As the year draws to a close we will celebrate the achievements of all our students. Some at our annual Presentation Day  but for all students, we celebrate achievements every day in their classrooms. Remember their pop will come.

On Friday I will attend the Whitebridge High School Leadership Induction at the invitation of our partner high school. It will be wonderful to be part of this important occasion and know that the students who accepting these positions were supported and nurtured to develop as leaders during their primary school years.

Week 2 Award Recipients

Congratulations to all of our award winners!

Primary Ethics Update

Many thanks to the children from DPS who have contributed and enjoyed their Ethics Lessons this year. Your fabulous volunteer teachers have really enjoyed teaching you!

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Ian Gillard, Andrew Knight, Robyn Simpson, Margaret Donegan and Kate Davies. Without these generous volunteers we would not be able offer the Primary Ethics program at Dudley.

Primary Ethics have recently donated the lovely book “Lenny and the Ants” by Jessica Chapnik Khan to our library. It’s a wonderful book - go and check it out! Thank you to Primary Ethics.

We are always searching for more volunteer teachers - currently for 2020 we will only be able to offer three Ethics classes per week. We would love to give more children the opportunity to experience this fantastic program. Do you have an hour a week to spare? Do you know someone in the wider community who may be interested? Full training and ongoing support is given. For an informal chat please get in touch with Lucy Rees on 0481215337 or email reeslucy@yahoo.co.uk or look at the website primaryethics.com.au.

Scripture / Ethics Classes for 2020 will be finalised by the end of week 7 term 4. If you are wanting to change classes for 2020 it will need to be requested in writing and submitted to the office before Friday 29 November. Otherwise your child will remain in the same as 2019.

A Non scripture class will be offered in the event there are not enough ethics teachers.

Thanks very much!

A GREAT NIGHT WAS HAD BY ALL AT OUR TRIVIA NIGHT HELD SATURDAY 26 OCTOBER IN FAIRLEIGH HALL

Neil Keene writes …

More brain teasers than a Sale of the Century marathon, more belly laughs than a stand-up comedy show - our 2019 Trivia Night was a fantastic success.

Thanks to all who supported our fundraising in the lead up and those came on the night.

It was a packed house and an action-packed affair, from Danny Nugus’s no-holds-barred turn as MC to Mr Sargent’s chameleon-like transformation into art critic/auctioneer, and from Mike Hackney’s music box and JJ and the Tomcats belting out 90s classics way past midnight to the OOSH team taking out first place in a do-or-die tie breaker, this was a night to remember.

Underpinning it all: the wonderful generosity and support of our families and teacher. We raised $7,865 ... an amazing result.

Our art auction alone raised almost $3,000, with 1/2K’s ‘Serengeti Style’ the single piece fetching top dollar.

Well done to everyone involved in the planning and execution of this fundraiser, and bring on the 2040 movie night and carols!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Gartelmann Wines and all our supporters and hope you will support them for supporting us!

P & C Dates for the Diary

School & Community Movie Night, Friday 15 November at 6.30pm in Fairleigh Hall

The P&C in conjunction with Dudley Sustainable Neighbourhood Group is proud to present the award-winning must-watch Damon Gameau documentary 2040 that looks to the future, but is vitally important NOW. The film takes us on a journey to explore what the future would look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them into the mainstream. A low-waste community event with gold entry by gold coin donation.   More info to come soon.

Carols Night @ DPS Tuesday 10 December. More info to come soon.
