PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

We come to the end of the year, and what a year it has been. I cannot begin to thank the community enough for the huge amount of support that I have been shown throughout the year, but particularly this term.

Below is a letter to our families from Sarah Dawson, the incoming principal. I am very excited that she is joining us; she has a wealth of experience and a passion for the education of our students.

Wishing all of our families and the wider community a very safe and enjoyable holiday season. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2019. For those families leaving us to head to high school adventures and beyond, we wish you all the very best for the future and hope to see you again soon.

A message from Sarah Dawson

Dear Scarborough Community,

I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead Scarborough PS though the next part of its journey.

Scarborough PS is a highly effective and innovative school. Whilst change is inevitable to some degree as the school grows and the community evolves, I am coming to you with a great deal of respect for the wonderful work that is already happening and looking forward to building on it to continue to best cater for each and every one of our students.

I started my career in education as a teacher at Lancelin PS and have held Deputy and Acting Principal Positions at a number of metropolitan schools including Middle Swan and Heathridge Primary Schools. One of the most satisfying roles that I have undertaken to date was that of opening Pearsall Primary School as the Foundation Deputy Principal. This allowed me to develop and apply my skills across all areas of educational leadership and gain a highly developed insight into what is required to build a school culture of excellence from the ground up.

From Pearsall PS I was seconded into the role of Coordinator Regional Operations for the North Metropolitan Education Region where I have had the privilege of supporting, working with and learning from a diverse range of Principals and school communities for the last 3 years. This unique opportunity has given me an excellent understanding of the broader education system, departmental policies and procedures and the full range of support systems and services that are available to schools.

I am very excited to be joining the Scarborough PS Community as Principal in 2019 and my wish for the school is quite simple; To continue to build a culture of inclusivity and excellence, ensuring that each and every student and family coming through our doors is given a quality education in a warm, caring and friendly learning environment.

I wish you all a safe and happy holiday season and a relaxing start to the New Year. I look forward to meeting you all in 2019.

Chaplain's Chat

So here we are, finishing up another year. The clichés about time flying and ‘wasn’t it just yesterday...’ are probably clichés for a reason. Over the break my wife and I are hoping to take our two boys to camp down in Albany and spend time with my extended family. I was thinking of the last time we did that and we stayed with two of my brothers and their families. Over the space of a week, the three-bedroom house supported seven kids [all under the age of 9] and six adults! It was a pretty hectic time, but a pretty special one as well. I come from a large family [six brothers and four sisters] and so we don’t always get to see everyone all that much. But over that week the times that I really valued were those moments where we were able to slow down and share our lives with each other.

The Christmas break can be a challenging one, but it can also be a special one. It can be a fast and hectic time, but it can also be one where we slow down for a time and hopefully refresh a little alongside the people we love. Most likely it will be a little bit of both. I really hope that over the break you get to experience some of those moments with your families and friends.
