New Lambton Heights Infants School

Term 1 Week 9 2023 Newsletter

We at New Lambton Heights Infants School acknowledge that we learn and play on the traditional country of the Awabakal people. We pay respects to Elders past, present and emerging, valuing their knowledge and seeking continued respectful relationships.

We recognise, respect and appreciate the traditional custodians cultural heritage, beliefs, relationships, and continued connection with the land, the skies and the waterways. This continent was and always will be Aboriginal land.

2S News in a Flash!

Wow…8 weeks have already passed and 2S have settled into their school leadership roles with excitement and a sense of responsibility. We have led assemblies, began leading the whole school sports groups and assisted our kinder buddies to settle in by nurturing them, caring for them and being a respectful role model to them.

In class, we have been revising some tricky grammar and continuing to expand our vocabulary with new spelling rules to learn. Did you know that you can make 1021 words just from the word ‘brainstorming?’ These are just some of the fun challenges Year Two solve in both Mathematics and English.  History is an area of study whereby the students are learning about the historical significance of local artefacts and sights such as the Bogey Hole.

Most importantly, 2S are hoping to successfully enter the Hunter Dance Festival. We have been working with a local dance teacher to devise and learn a dance that will be filmed for our submission. Each student is picking up the dance moves extremely quickly and displaying genuine persistence and risk taking to try new things with confidence, following the school’s Captain Disposition behaviour traits.

Personally, I would like to thank each of your children, yourselves, and the staff of this beautiful family school for making me feel so welcome. I have loved every minute getting to know each of your little ones and am delighted to be working in such a supportive and caring environment. I look forward to getting to know you more in the coming months.

2024 Enrolments

We have started to have some inquiries about starting Kindergarten in 2024. The first step of the process is a phone call to the office and the office staff will take details. If a parent would like to come and visit the school, Mrs Hughes will phone and organise a time. Alternatively, an online application can be submitted and we will be in contact.

At this stage we take details for both local and non local enrolments. Mid term 2, we will phone names on the list or those who have enrolled online,  to have a preliminary discussion.

If you have a sibling or know of any family or friends who are interested in enrolling in 2024, please contact the office.

School Volunteers

If you are a parent, carer or grandparent and you would like to volunteer at school this year, you will need to fill out a volunteer's declaration at the school office and show a photo identification. This needs to be done at least one day before you start volunteering, as we need to complete a screening process. At this stage we are only asking volunteers who have not already done this. If you have completed the paperwork in previous years, we will not require you to do this again until advised.
