Term 4 Week 5

Message from the Principal

Term 4 is certainly living up to it's reputation of being extremely busy. It is really important to remember to take the time to stop and breathe. To reflect on the work we have achieved throughout the year and to be proud of our accomplishments. I would like to thank our P&C for the amazing support they have provided this year and for providing additional funds to help us continue to improve what we do each day. We are very grateful to all parents and community members  who participate in school events and contribute to our fundraising activities, it really does feel like we are one enormous family that is willing to look out for each other and provide the care and support where it is needed most. I welcome the new P&C Executive team and look forward to continuing to work together in partnership so that Towradgi Public School is able to continue to connect, succeed and thrive in every way possible.

Last week, I spent an incredible four days at the Australian Primary Principals Association Conference in Sydney. This was an opportunity for me to connect with principals from all over the nation, to discuss what is important in Education and to hear from a wide range of speakers around leadership, resilience and wellbeing. These conversations have sparked many ideas and motivated me to continue the important work that I do - shaping the lives of our young people. I am very thankful to the leadership team for looking after Towradgi PS with great care in my absence.

This year, we offered to host one of the Illawarra's HPAG class for high achieving students from a number of local schools. It has been a real pleasure to watch the learning experiences they have engaged in and today, I am happy to celebrate with them, their families and their school principals. Thank you to the HPAG teacher, Heike, who has energised and motivated them to stretch their minds.

Today, our students displayed exemplary manners and respect at our annual Remembrance Day service. As part of the service, students lay flowers at the base of our flag pole as we remember the sadness of war and the relief that it was over. These flowers will be transported to the Cenotaph in Wollongong later today. Thanks to Mr Langford for coordinating the service.

Finally, don't forget to get your tickets for the spectacular Dance 2b Fit concert on the 28th November. Tickets are available for both the day time and evening performances. I know all of the students are very excited to be able to perform to a whole audience once again.

Remembrance Day - we will remember them.

Dance2Bfit Concert

Our classes are super busy preparing for our End of Year Dance Concert that will take place on Monday 28th November! The concert will be held at Corrimal High School with two performance times (12.30pm – 2.30pm and 6.30pm – 8.30pm). Tickets can be ordered online (free of charge), with each family being eligible for four tickets per performance. Tickets must be ordered online using the QR codes attached by Friday 18th November. Subject to availability, additional tickets may be released in the week prior to the concert performance.

Students in each class have also received notes outlined costume requirements for their respective performances. If you have any questions about costuming, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

Parents and carers will be responsible for taking students to and from the venue on the day of the concert. Our whole school will be closed (except for Early Intervention), so it is set to be a fantastic event for our whole school community! We cannot wait to show you all the dances we have been working on!

Stay tuned for more details!

SRC - Focus on Kindness

During Term 2 and Term 3, two students from our SRC attended the SRC Network Meeting. The meeting has been held at Lindsay Park Public School and involves 20 other schools, including primary schools and high schools from our area.

During these meetings we have been given initiatives to work on. One of our initiatives was to bring a logo design from our school to the last network meeting. The SRC’s job to choose just one logo was made very difficult with all of the phenomenal entries. The winner of the Towradgi Public School SRC Network logo competition was Rafa in Year 6.

Our initiative for this term was voted on by the SRC and I am very proud of the direction they are taking. This term the SRC are focussing on kindness. As part of this initiative the SRC want to support the Homeless Hub Wollongong, especially in the lead up to Christmas. We will be collecting donations during week 7, 8 and 9. A note will be sent home with a list of items you can donate. A box will be placed in the office foyer for all your donations. We will also be sending home a kindness calendar so all students and families can complete acts of kindness during the three weeks of our donation drive. We hope that you will be able to support the SRC this term and enjoy our kindness theme!!

We have been so excited to meet our incoming 2023 Kindergarten students. They have come along to our orientation sessions and had so much fun making friends, meeting the teachers and learning all about being at school. We can't wait until they start big school next year!

If you have a child who will be starting Kindergarten in 2023 make sure you enrol now. If you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident you are eligible to complete the online enrolment application. You will then need to finalise the application at the school. If you are not eligible or prefer not to enrol online you can visit our school to complete the process. If your child does not live within our intake area you can complete an out-of-area enrolment. Out-of-area enrolment procedures are subject to the department's enrolment policy.
