Principals Column

Hello, Giinagay, Hai

Congratulations to our recent outstanding student performances:

  • U12 Soccer Sharks who won their grand final on Saturday, under the care and guidance of Pak Karl. Great display of talent, teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Cohen Pithers who received an A+ in his musical presentation.
  • Matilda and Frieda Parkhouse excelled in their surfing competitions.

We wish our Debating team, the Scotts Head Silvertongues (Sienna, Charlotte, Aiken and Ayrielle), the very best of luck in their debate this Wednesday at 10am.

Year 6 students will be making their speech to the school for the student leadership positions of School Captain and Vice School Captain tomorrow.  After the presentation all students will return to their classrooms to vote by completing a ballot paper. We wish all the Year 6s the very best for their preparation and courage.

We are very excited to welcome Wulaaran Walker to our staff from Term 4. Wulaaran is an ex-student of Scotts Head PS and is just about to begin her School Based Traineeship here at the school, funded by the Elsa Dixon Project.

Wulaaran will be working on a Wednesday supporting Mrs B in the 1/2 classroom. This program will continue into 2021 and 2022 as she completes a Certificate III in Education Support.

Subject: Making a Difference - Scotts Head PS

Hi Gillian

Thank you for taking my call, and again CONGRATULATIONS to you and your school for implementing such a successful initiative. I have also been told that Minister Mitchell (Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning) referenced your school and the initiative during the Legislative Assembly yesterday.

Attached is a copy of ‘Making a Difference’ which has been provided to all MPs.

Attendance

Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. It is really important for our school to work in partnership with parents/carers to encourage and support regular attendance of children and young people. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.

Currently 60% of our students have an attendance level of 90% and above and 15% are sitting in the 85-90% range.  Our focus for Term 4 is to see if we can lift these rates.

Did You Know….?

For every day of school missed by a student, it will reduce their attendance by 0.5%.

Ten whole days of school has been missed if your child has 95% attendance.

Twenty whole days of school has been missed if a student attendance is 90%.

By the time a student is persistently absent (85% attendance) they have missed 6 weeks or half a term of schooling.

Debating Competition

Our debaters are gearing up for their battle with Banora Point Public School. This Wednesday at 10am, the Scotts Head Silvertongues (Sienna, Charlotte, Aiken and Ayrielle) will be carrying our community's hopes and dreams on their sturdy shoulders. Having progressed through the competition undefeated so far, the team find themselves amidst the excitement and challenge of sudden-death debating in the regional finals. But that's not all, folks. Although our other team, the Scotts Head Articulators (Brylee, Ella, Zaki and Roman), were eliminated from the competition, they have given up their lunch breaks to help their class mates prepare for this encounter. Their dedication towards their peers is remarkable. Well done to both teams.

Pak Chris.

Grand Finalists

Congratulations to the Under 12 Soccer Sharks on their fabulous result winning the grand final on Saturday.  The team displayed great sportsmanship and teamwork.  Pak Karl has done a fantastic job coaching the team.

Surfing Titles

Congratulations to Matilda who came 4th in the Under 12 category at the 2020 Havaianas NSW Grommet State Surfing Titles.  The titles were held at Maroubra Beach on 14 to 16 August.  Well done Matilda!

Matilda and Frieda competed in the Woolworths Surfer Groms Competition at Coffs Harbour on 26 and 27 September. Surfers from Seal Rocks NSW to the Queensland border competed.  Tilly placed 3rd in Under 12's and Frieda placed 4th in Under 10's.  An awesome result for you both.

Tell Them from Me Parent Survey

This term our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement.

The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted end of Term 3 and early Term 4. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au.
