Dudley Public School Newsletter

Term 4 Weeks 9 and 10

Principal’s Message

I can't believe that we are publishing the last newsletter for 2018! What a wonderful year it has been for the staff and students at Dudley Public School. This week we will celebrate the wonderful achievements of our students at our annual Presentation Days for students in Years 1-6 on Thursday and our Kindergarten students on Friday. The growth and commitment to learning by all students has been wonderful to see and each and every student should be proud of their achievements this year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents and families who have helped in classrooms, with transport and other activities at school. Without your support our jobs would be much harder.

Thank you to our hardworking P&C who works closely with the school to provide additional resources for our students.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all when school returns on 29th January 2019.

Primary Ethics Update

During 2018 we have been able to offer Primary Ethics lessons for at least part of the year to all children who expressed an interest. What a fantastic achievement!

The Ethics programme has certainly flourished in the past 5 years.  This is all due to our wonderful volunteer teachers. We would like to take the opportunity to thank the following wonderful people for teaching our Ethics Classes:

Ruth Osborne - who will be finishing teaching after donating Five years to Primary Ethics at Dudley Public School. Ruth has been teaching three lessons each week this year.

Karmel Macdonald, and Asiya Verachia who are moving on to new chapters in their lives

We are very grateful for the continued support of Margaret Donegan, Robyn Simpson, and Kate Davies.

We are now desperate for more volunteer teachers to be able to continue to offer this experience to students.  Without new volunteers we will only be running two or three lessons each Tuesday.  We really need 5 new teachers.  No teaching experience is needed, full training is given. Our volunteers can be parents or grandparents or friends or neighbours.

Can you donate 1 -2 hours per week during term time to teach Ethics Classes?  Do you know someone who might be interested?  If you would like your child to have Ethics lessons, then we need your help in finding some teachers!

Please see Primary Ethics Website (www.primaryethics.com.au) or contact Lucy Rees (0481215337 reeslucy@yahoo.co.uk) for more information. I will be at presentation assembly if you’d like to chat about Ethics!

An amazing donation for our school community!

The school has received an incredible donation of a framed, signed Commonwealth Games 2018 shirt worn by Kurt Fearnley. The Three-time Paralympic gold medalist was recently appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia and has previously received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2005.

This generous donation has been made by a Dudley PS family, who wish to remain anonymous. They bid for the shirt at a charity auction for cancer research and asked for the shirt to be dedicated to the children of Dudley so that it could be enjoyed by everyone and remind children what everyone is capable of.

The shirt will be hung in the library where it can be enjoyed by the community and will be presented at Presentation Day in Week 9.

End of Year Picnic Day Celebrations.

The end of year celebrations are about to begin and what a fabulous year its been.

Tuesday 18 December: K-2 will be heading to the Ninja park at Howzat. This will be followed by class parties back at school. (A note will be sent home by class teachers with details of the food and drink to bring.)

Wednesday 19 December: Years 3-6 will be spending the day swimming and using the inflatable activities at Charlestown Pool.

Please note: Travel will be by bus for both activities.

Stage 3 visit the Great Aussie Bush Camp

In Week 7, our Stage 3 students spent a wonderful three days in Kincumber at the Great Aussie Bush Camp. Although the weather started out pretty ordinary, the rain cleared and we had an amazing time. The students challenged themselves on a range of outdoor adventure activities with the powerfan, giant swing, mud world and the awesome commando spotlight game.

Photos can be accessed and downloaded here. Please note, you will need to use a HEIC to JPG converter online to view Mrs Gaston's and Mrs Sullivan's photos. Download the files you want then upload them into the converter. Sorry, they have only just upgraded from their Nokia 3310s and are still learning how to use their iPhones.

Mr H

Read the student reflection below from Year 6 students, Hannah Snow and Zara Hanson:

The Great Aussie Bush Camp was so much fun and we did lots of activities like mud world, raft building, giant swing, archery, the powerfan, high ropes and rock climbing.

We did really fun night time activities too after ice-cream and snowcones. We did Battle Of The Sexes and Commando in the bush and the camp leaders told us a funny story.

Overall, it was an awesome experience and we will never forget it.

Zara: My favourite activity was the giant swing because it helped me step out of my comfort zone and conquer my fear of heights.
