Principals Report

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome back to term three.  I hope you managed to get some down time in with your family over the break.  We are excited to have our students back in the school and look forward to a productive and engaging term.

Report Format Feedback

Having had a chance to look at the new reporting format I invite you to provide us some feedback about this to support us to improve.  Please click the link below to fill out a quick survey.  We have reviewed the new reporting format with our staff and would like to incorporate the views of our parents and carers in the semester two reports.

Pupil Free Day Update

On Monday the staff spent time analysing the recent review report and reflecting on the progress the school has made in the last three years as well as analysing the key finding from the recent school strategic review.  The three strategic goals that were developed through the review process are below.

1.      To Improving Literacy and Numeracy Outcomes

2.      To Improve Student Engagement in Learning

3.      To Student Voice and Agency in Learning

I am currently planning opportunities for the students to engage in a similar process to support the development of our new vision for the school over the next four years.  I will also be inviting you to contribute your thoughts to shape this process.

My intention is to create an aspirational and inspiring goal for us to work toward will help us make the best school possible for our students and your children.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Learning Expo

On Friday 23 July we are inviting you to come and view the learning that our students have undertaken in term two.  Students will be spread across the entire school site, including Middle Gully.  Our classrooms will be open for you to visit from 2:30pm -3:50pm on Friday 23 July.  This will be in place of the school assembly on this day.

As with all of the parent events we have attempted to plan in the last 18 months, this is all subject to the health restrictions on the day.  As I write this, we can hold school events with external guests.

Winter Solstice

We are also planning to hold the Winter Solstice Event on Friday 23rd of July between 5:30pm and 7:30pm.   We will be holding a short outdoor dance on the main school grandstand before the lantern parade to the bon fire area in Middle Gully.

In regard to the lanterns, we are still in need of additional 1.5 litre plastic bottles to finish the lanterns.  The donation drop spot is in the front office of the school in the large tubs.

This is another event that we are keenly watching the COVID restrictions, and we will keep you updated.

Qr Codes / Facemasks

The use of Service Victoria QR codes for electronic record keeping is now mandatory in all schools to enable the effective contract tracing of any COVID-19 cases.

QR Code check in are required to be used by:

  • All visitors on school site (including contractors, external Department staff and building maintenance staff)
  • All parents who enter school building when on school site.

QR code check ins are not required to be used by parents who come onto school grounds for drop off or pick up, but do not enter buildings.

Please be reminded that:

Existing sign in and out process should continue to be used to record visitor attendance, therefore visitors still need to use the visitors book at the office, for legal and regulatory obligations.

Face masks at schools

School staff (primary and secondary) and secondary school students aged 12 or older:

·         are not required to wear a face mask while at school (or when attending an Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) program), when interacting exclusively with staff and students from their school

·         must carry a face mask at all times, unless a lawful exception applies

·         should wear a face mask indoors when interacting with external visitors, including parents/carers and staff/students from other schools.

School staff (primary and secondary) who work in largely public-facing roles, e.g. reception staff, must wear a face mask indoors at all times.

Children under 12 years of age and students at primary school are not required to wear face masks when at school, or when attending an OSHC program.

Visitors and parents must observe indoor face mask requirements. Face masks continue to be recommended outdoors when 1.5m physical distancing cannot be maintained.

From the Office

Enrolments and students leaving in 2021

We are now accepting new enrolments for Foundation students in 2022. If you have a child or know someone with a child that is wanting to enrol at Macedon Primary next year, please return your forms to the office. A link to the form is available here 2022 Enrolment Form

Alternatively, if you child is leaving Macedon Primary at the end of this year (not including year 6 students), can you please let us know, so we can start planning for next year.

Spare Clothes

With the wet weather now upon us, please make sure your children have spare clothes in their bag. We have a small amount of clothing in the sick bay, however if your child gets wet, we cannot always fully re-clothe them. A spare pair of socks is highly recommended.

Lunch Orders

As you know we offer a lunch order service on a Friday through Red Door Cafe. Over the last few weeks we have seen a rise in the amount of children either missing items from their lunch orders or not receiving their lunches, this creates stress for the children and more work for the office staff.  If you could please read the following tips to make sure the lunch order process is as streamlined as possible:

- Please clearly mark your child's name and class on the lunch order bag.

- Please have correct change.

- If you have a large amount of coins, please make sure they are secure in the bag.

- If you are dropping in the lunch order directly at Red Door, please make sure you have told them the correct class of the child.

- Please make sure you are ordering from the correct menu
