St Mary's Bulletin

Term 3 - Week 7 (6 September, 2019)

From the Principal

Dear St Mary's School Community

St Mary's Day

St Mary's Day 2019 was a great success!  We started the day with Mass (led by the staff), which gave us the opportunity  to give thanks for this wonderful school community we are all a part of.  Then the children were split into groups for a range of activities which included playing old fashioned games, learning about the school song, looking at old uniforms of the school, looking at the school crest and doing a quiz around the school grounds.  The children loved their sausage sizzle lunch which was cooked by the RE Ministry who were ably assisted by Maureen Wilson and Jonathon Robartson!  Thank you to all the staff for organising the activities for the day and a big thank you to Mrs Herbert who coordinated the whole day meticulously!

Holy Communion

Next weekend sees the Year Four children celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time.  This is a special day in their faith journey.  The children will participate in a retreat at school next Thursday before their special day on Sunday, 15 September at the 10.30 am Mass.  Please keep the Year Four children, their families, Fr Andrew, Mrs Herbert and Miss Montgomery in your prayers.

Class Structures 2020

Last Tuesday, all members of the St Mary’s School community would have received a letter about Class Structures for 2020 and beyond.  I invite all families to email me any questions they have about class structures by no later than Wednesday, 11 September at adriana.coniglio@cewa.edu.au I look forward to seeing everyone at one of the Parent Information Sessions on either Thursday, 12 September at 7.00pm or on Friday, 13 September at 9.00am.

Audit

St Mary’s School underwent their registration audit on Wednesday.  The auditor, Mrs Carlyn Dyer, was grateful for the input of staff and parents in the process.  However, she was most impressed with the ability of the student group, led by our Head Boy John McGinniss and Head Girl Ellie Criddle, to articulate the processes and procedures that are in place in our school and to speak articulately on why St Mary’s School is such a great school.  This was certainly a 'proud Principal' moment for me!

Family Friday

Next Friday, 13th September will be our last Family Friday for this term as Friday in Week Nine is assembly and Week Ten is a Pupil Free Day.  Next term, we will change the day to Wednesdays (Welcoming Wednesday) to include Kindy and to allow parents who work on a Friday or are unable to attend, to spend time in their child’s classroom.

Thank You

Thank you to the P&F for donating the “George the Farmer” series of books.  This is a great series that depicts all the nuances of living in a farming community.  “George the Farmer” will be housed in the library.

A big thank you to Lisa O’Neill and Jasmine Holmes for coordinating a successful St Mary’s Footy Tipping for 2019!  It was certainly a close competition until the very end!  Congratulations to the winner Sandgroper 63 and runner-up Brendan Smith.

Thank you so much to Brendan Bartlett for organising and building the quiet nook bench in the Early Learning Area – this is a fabulous addition to the outdoor space and gives the children the opportunity to retreat to a quiet, comfortable space to read, draw or just be!

Welcome

We welcome the Nguyen Family (Jessica) to the St Mary’s School community who join us in Three Year Old Kindy.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families.

Mary's Song of Praise: The Magnificat

And Mary said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.  For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.  And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.  He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.  He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”  Luke 1:46-55
