St Mary's Bulletin

Term 4 - Week 5 (13 November, 2020)

From the Principal

Dear St Mary's School Community

Remembrance Day

Thank you to Mrs O'Malley and the Year Sixes who led the school in a reverent service for Remembrance Day on Wednesday afternoon.  Thank you to all the students who made a poppy to place in our gardens as a  visual reminder of this special day and to Mrs Discenza for coordinating the fence display.   Zoe (Head Girl) and Charlie (Head Boy) represented our school proudly at the Shire of Merredin ceremony which was held for 11.00am.

Reconciliation

We wish all the Year Three students who are celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time over the weekend the very best of luck.  This is an important step in their faith journey.  Congratulations to Anjelica Kraske-Beck, Emmett Tayler, Mitchell O'Neill, Xavier Amm, Corben Cooper, Jack kermode, Chloe Bartlett, Maya Dean, Beau Criddle and Kaitlyn Bissett.  Thank you to Mrs O’Malley, Miss Walsh and Father Andrew for preparing the Year Three children.

NAIDOC Week

This week we celebrate a postponed NAIDOC Week.  The 2020 theme is:  Always Was, Always Will Be.  It recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.  It  acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future.

NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact - the very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples.

NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country – a history which dates back thousands of generations.

Always Was, Always Will Be.

ICAS

Congratulations to all the students who partook in the ICAS Assessments throughout the year.  A special congratulation to Abigail Smith and Milla Dolton who received a Distinction in the English Assessment and to Joshua Smith who received a Distinction in the Science Assessment.

Book Fair

Thank you to all the families that supported the Book Fair this year.  We have made over $4000 worth of sales – which is fantastic.  The school receives bonuses from the sales which go towards resources for our students.  Thank you to Mrs Discenza for her organisation and coordination of the Book Fair 2020.

Principal Absence

I will be attending the CPPA AGM and System Leaders Thanksgiving Mass next Friday, 20 November.  Mrs O’Malley will be responsible for the school in my absence.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,

Ms Adriana Coniglio

Principal
