Term 2 Week 4 2022

Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to acknowledge Goulburn as an important meeting place that was inhabited, at first contact with Europeans, by the Gundungurra and Ngunawal people who are the traditional custodians of this land. We would like to pay respect to Elders both past, present and future, also extending that respect to other Aboriginal people present today on the land in which we meet, work and live.

News from the South

Dear parents/carers

The final NAPLAN assessments will be completed today as the testing window will close. All students have done a great job of giving it their best effort. The daily breakfast organised by our wonderful staff allowed for students to have a great start to their morning.

Sentral parent portal

After receiving feedback and reviewing our methods of communication, the P&C kindly trialed the Sentral Parent Portal for our school and with positive feedback, we see it as an essential tool for streamlined communication. Some families are already familiar with this platform which is an added bonus. It will ensure that hard copy notes won’t be lost and will slowly serve as a one-stop-shop for all school communication.

Student absences will also be on the app for you to easily submit them electronically.

An added bonus is that it is private for our GSPS community and adds an additional layer of safety for our students.

We know that having an extra app and following the steps may be difficult, as it is quite secure and will require a two-step process so if any parent/carer needs assistance please just give us a call and we will help you through it.

We are doing a staged approach to ensure that every child has an adult attached to them. To ensure no student slips through, we are starting with Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6). Once all families are on we will then move down to Years 3 and 4 and so forth.

‘Stranger Danger’

Students have been reminded today of the importance of ‘stranger danger’ and how to be S.M.A.R.T - Safety Means Always Recognising Trouble. Students were also reminded to watch for any cars acting strangely and the importance to ‘yell and tell’ if required.

Kind regards,

National Reconciliation Week 2022

Reconciliation Week

Goulburn South will be holding two events during Reconciliation Week. On Monday 30th May in the afternoon from 2:15pm to 3:15pm, we will be hosting Goulburn South Yarn Up afternoon tea for parents and grandparents of indigenous students. On Thursday 2nd June in session 2 from 11.00am, all families are invited to a whole school event. It will include speeches by our school leaders, indigenous games for everyone and a gallery/mural walk through with a chance to try some bush tucker snacks. Family and friends are invited to stay on for a picnic lunch with their children.

Sorry day is the day before Reconciliation Day and students will be talking and making art on the theme.
