Term 3 Week 8

From The Principal

Shoalhaven Music Festival Performance

What a great night! The massed choir sounded beautiful and Terara Public School were superb in their school choir presentation of Big Yellow Taxi. Mia and Grace were fabulous on percussion, and the duet from Susanna and Grace was fantastic. After all the hard work to learn the songs and the rehearsals to perfect the performance, the students were very excited and a little nervous before the lights went down. But when the stage lights came on, they were ready to sing and gave a great performance. Congratulations to all our primary students. You did a great job!

Film Premiere This Friday

Last year our film, “The Promise”, won the Film by the Bay Film Festival and famous Australian Actor Bryan Brown had a lot of great things to say about it at the state-wide “Film by Invitation” event in Sydney earlier this year.

We have made a new film for this year’s festival called “The Perfect Record”, and it is all about detectives, family and pies. The synopsis for the film is as follows:

As the Pie Bandit returns to wreak havoc on the students of Terara, a retiring detective has one last chance to crack the case she could never solve.

We will be premiering our film at this Friday’s assembly.

Lantern Parade Workshop Invitation

Terara Public School has been selected as the official River Festival School for this year's Shoalhaven River Festival. Artist, Dora Rognvaldsdottir, has been working with our students to make lanterns to carry in the lantern parade during the festival. Dora has extended her generosity to include any adults who would like to join in a workshop to make the larger leading lanterns for the parade. Below is her invitation for any adults who would like to join in this wonderful activity. Please email her directly if you'd like to be involved.

Hey all keen creators and interested lantern makers,

I am inviting all of you who are keen to learn and engage in the craft of making lanterns to join me in making larger leading lanterns for the River Festival Lantern Parade. The festival is a wonderful community event held on Saturday 26th October. I am very excited to be working with Terara Public School, making lanterns with all the students, as the school is the official lantern parade school for 2019. I am inviting parents, teachers, organisers, and anyone who would like to partake in lantern making in my studio in Nowra on Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 September 9 - 4. You can come for some of the time or all of the time. Please bring a plate to share and BYO drinks; coffee & tea will be provided.

Balgowlah North PS Concert Band Performance

Balgowlah North Concert Band will be performing for our students at Terara Public School next Monday, 16th September, at 2pm. They are undertaking a tour of the South Coast, playing at only a few schools, so we are very lucky to have them perform for us. It's bound to be a great show. Parents/carers are welcome to come along and see the show. There is no cost for this performance.

Maintenance Work

Our school has been allocated over $80,000 worth of maintenance work to be carried out before the end of 2019. Currently our demountable classrooms are being repainted, and the 5/6 classroom and all of the administration block will be repainted soon. Guttering will be replaced along all covered walkways and the assembly area.

Future Enrolments at Terara Public School

We are currently seeking to establish the demand for student places at our school over the next few years and recently sent home a note requesting notification of any siblings you would like to enrol for Kindergarten between 2021 and 2024. If you have not returned this note and are seeking enrolment for siblings, please write a brief note and send it to school or call the school office (4421 6034) with details. Thanks for your help.
