Principal's Message

As term 1 draws to a close, I would like to thank our students, staff and parent community for what has been a productive and busy school term. Thank you to our school staff who demonstrate commitment to our school vision statement, where we aim to nurture and inspire every student to be a successful learner. This has been evident through our focus on explicit teaching, student wellbeing and the provision of a range of enriching programs and extra-curricular activities.

I would also like to thank our P&C and parent community for their hard work and dedication towards the coordination of the election day barbecue, cake stall and the upcoming Easter raffle. The funds raised support our students directly at school.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish our students and their families an enjoyable and safe school holiday period and all the best for Easter. School resumes for students on Wednesday 26 April.

Nicole Doig, Relieving Principal

Sydney North Basketball Success

Congratulations to Shuya who was selected in the Sydney North Basketball team. Shuya will compete with the team at the NSW Championships in May. This is a fantastic achievement.

Student Leaders' Report

The term has nearly ended and we have all had a lot on. This week we have an Easter raffle. Thank you to everyone who brought in an Easter donation or gold coin for the raffle. On Wednesday Stage 3 has an excursion to the Manly Quarantine Station which is linked to the book ‘Ghost Boy’ which we have been reading in class. This Thursday we have our school ANZAC Ceremony where student voice representatives will lay their class wreaths. We wish everyone a happy and safe Easter holiday. See you next term!

From the Student Leaders

Sports' Leaders Report

Last Thursday we had our school cross country. At the school cross country students ran around the school and on the footpath. Older students ran 3 km, some students ran 2 km and the younger students ran 1 km, except Kindergarten who ran around the oval. Luckily for us, the weather was sunny and the event could go ahead. Well done to all those who participated in Cross Country and well done to everyone who makes it to zone. Please give a very big thank you to Miss Fury and Miss Ko for organising the event.

Last Friday was the last summer PSSA until term 4.  Next term, there will be winter PSSA, netball and soccer. Tryouts will be held in the first week of next term.

Tia (Wentworth Sports Leader)

ANZAC Day Ceremony

Parents and community members, we would love for you to join us on Thursday 6 April at 9.15am as we commemorate Anzac Day. This service will take place at the flagpole, near the library.

If there are any current-serving personnel who would like to take on a more active role during the service, please contact the school.

5E Update

Mathematics

5E have been completing a mathematic Olympic medley, combining all of our learning, with a focus on area, graphs, measurement and data interpretation. Our first event involved using rulers to measure how far we could step and then recording our results in a table. Our second event will be incorporating rounding and estimation of whole numbers up to a million!

Science

Over the last week, 5E has been working in groups with Mrs Grover to see how the concentration of salt in water affects the growth of mung beans. Within just one week, we were able to observe some great results!

KE News

In Science KE have been learning about the features and needs of plants and animals. Students identified that plants need space, water, air, sunlight and soil to live and grow. This week KE put their knowledge into practice and planted their very own seeds. Each morning we check on our plants and make sure they get enough sunlight and water. Although we can't see it now, we know that the magic is happening below the surface. We are very excited to see our seeds sprout!

Robotics Worshop for RoboCup

On Saturday students attended a robotics workshop held by RoboCup Junior NSW. The workshop provided a wonderful opportunity for students to refine their programming skills and work on challenges to help them compete in the state RoboCup competition to be held in August at Holy Cross College, Ryde. The robotics clubs meet Thursday lunchtime for students in Years 3 and 4 and after school Thursdays for Years 5 and 6.
