From the Principal

Dear parents and carers,

Year 10 Graduation

On Monday, 28th November, our year 10 class, accompanied by their parents, guardians and teachers, will have their graduation dinner. This is a time for them to celebrate and recognise their time at LIS. We will farewell our wonderful year 10s as a school community at the Awards Night on Wednesday, 30th November.

Rugby League Clinics and Gala Day

Thanks to Mr McKeiver, teachers and parents who assisted with our hugely successful Rugby League Gala Day last Saturday. Special thanks to our visiting special guest, Mr Marcus Bai, who was very impressed with our students' participation and behaviour. Thanks also go to Mr Mick Daniels and Mr Nick Walsh for assisting with refereeing on the day.

Further information on the school's comprehensive sport and extracurricular program for 2023 will be shared with parents in coming weeks.

2023 Classes

I am currently organising classes for the 2023 school year. If you know your child / children will not be attending Lihir International School in 2023, and you have not yet informed me, please let me know as soon as possible, so that year level numbers and class organisation can be finalised. 2023 classes will be announced in week 9.

Awards Night

In the last week of this term, on Wednesday the 30th of November, the school will host its Awards Night. The evening will consist of various awards for each class and feature class concert items.

Kindy Enrolments

We are asking Townsite parents to please submit enrolment forms if you wish your child to attend Kindy next year. Thank you to the families who have already submitted their forms. Students must have turned 3 years of age before attending Junior Kindy, however, enrolments forms can be submitted earlier to assist us with our planning.

Next year, Junior Kindy students will attend on Monday and Thursdays only, from 8.00am - 12.15pm.

Kindy End-of-year and Transition to Prep

For Kindy parents, please be advised that the last day for Junior Kindy will be Tuesday 29th November and the last day for Senior Kindy will be Wednesday 30th November. There will be a short presentation to celebrate the end of Kindy for Senior Kindy parents on the Wednesday morning. Mrs Collins will advise parents of further details.

Over the next week, Kindy students will participate in a transition program in readiness for Prep next year. Under supervision, they will have recess and recess playtime with the primary students. They will also visit the Prep classroom and do some activities there as well as attend assembly next Friday.

Bicycle helmets

All students who ride a bike to and from school must wear a bicycle helmet. Some students have not been wearing a helmet and this is a safety issue. We ask parents to please ensure their child has a helmet to wear.

End-of-year Class Picnics

In the last week of term, all classes will have a class picnic to celebrate the end of year. Classes will have a sausage sizzle which will be supplied by the school.

Class picnics will take place as follows:

- Monday for year 3/4 at the pool

- Tuesday for year 7/8 at the pool and Prep/year 1/year 2 at school

- Wednesday for year 9/10 at the pool

- Thursday for year 5/6 at the pool

Students who are going to the pool will need to bring their togs, towel and thongs. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher.

Kind regards,

Ms Cathy Langusch

From the Deputy Principal (STM)

This week, we interviewed our shortlisted Work Ready Program Candidates for the next program which will commence next January. Early next week a toksave will be sent to the successful candidates so onboarding can take place, ready for commencement of our next program which is scheduled for the end January 2023.

We wish our Bachelor Primary Teacher Upgrade teachers, who are currently completing their final assessments which are due at the end of November all the best. We are also in consolation with DWU to prepare for next years BEd Upgrade Program and also the Master of Educational Leadership Program.

Our FODE students and Elementary Teachers from across Lihir continue to work on their distance education with the support of our STMC Staff.

Please note the Kisim Save Library is open for use by all Newcrest Employees and Townsite Residents. Please email SchoolToMineCampus@newcrest.com.au to book a time to come.
