Term 3 Week 8 - 11 September 2020

Dates for the Diary

Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Carers and Community,

Happy Belated Fathers’ Day

We hope all our dads, grandads and special men in our lives had a wonderful day last Sunday. The lovely spring weather certainly helped and allowed families to enjoy the outdoors.

Congratulations Ms El-Hage – Metropolitan South Network Awards 2020

Ms El-Hage has been a substantive member of Concord Public School's Executive Team since 2017. Over this time, she has made significant contributions, ensuring that quality teaching and learning is at the forefront of the school's daily operations. Collaborating with all key stakeholders is her strength, where they all play a significant role in contributing to the process. Thus, Ms El-Hage ensures that the entire school community is given a voice. Congratulations, Ms El-Hage on your Metropolitan South Network Award, 2020.

 Assissant Principal (Special Education) Position

You would recall several weeks ago I announced that a panel had been formed and were commencing to fill the position of Assistant Principal (Special Education). The interview process has now been finalised and the successful candidate has been offered and accepted the position. Once Department of Education processes have been completed, I will be at liberty to let you know who the successful candidate is.

Term 3 Whole School Evaluation Process and External Validation

Each year in Term 3, our school engages in a period of self-assessment and evaluation. This year is uniquely different for two reasons:

Firstly, the data and evidence that we collate will go towards our External Validation process. This process provides an assurance to the school and system that the progress being made aligns with the expectations articulated in the School Excellence Framework (SEF). Once in a five-year cycle, each school undergoes an External Validation of the evidence of their school’s self-assessment of progress by an independent panel. Our External Validation process will take place in November 2020;

Secondly, the evidence gathered will go towards our next school planning cycle – School Plan 2021-2024. This will encompass our goals for the next 4 years, our strategic improvement plan including our strategic directions and areas of focus, strategies of implementation and progress monitoring and our annual reflection and evaluation process.

The surveys that you as parents/carers have completed this year have given you an opportunity to provide feedback to the school. This data will go towards shaping our next School Plan. We look forward to sharing it with you once we have completed the process.

P&C Virtual Meeting

We hope to re-connect remotely with many of our parents and carers at the P&C meeting this Tuesday, 15th September at 7pm. Having seen the agenda, lots of exciting projects will be discussed and parents/carers will get the opportunity to ask questions. Hope to see you then!

Check-in Assessment

Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate in a new reading and numeracy check-in assessment in Term 3, 2020.

The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor Year 3 & Year 5 student learning following the period of learning from home.

The Check-in assessments can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs.

  • The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 5 students from 17 August to 4 September 2020.
  • The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 3 students from 21 September to 23 October 2020

Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment that they would normally receive in the classroom.

From the Office

Entering onto the School Grounds During School Hours

Please ensure that you come into the office, if you need to give something to your child, or if they have forgotten to bring something to school. The office staff are more than happy to pass the item on.

If you need to see your child or pass on a message to them, the office staff can help with that too. We encourage parents to allow us to pass on messages during break times, so that your child's learning is not interrupted. All visitors must sign-in at the office and wear a visitor's sticker. This is to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all.

Payment

When making a payment online you can only pay up to 3 DAYS before the due date of the payment. This is due to online transactions taking 48 hours to process.

Other payment methods such as cash or cheque can also be sent to the front office and placed in the blue box labelled “School Post”.

Please note that we do not accept online payment for uniform or canteen orders. Please see the uniform or canteen order  form for payment details.

Permission Notes

If you have more than one child we need to have a note for each child, not all on one note please.

Change of Contact/Address details

Please inform the office immediately if you have changed your contact or address details, so we can contact you in case of an emergency.

Bicycle and Scooter Guidelines

If you give permission for your child to ride a bicycle or scooter to and/or from school, and store it on the school grounds, please carefully read and sign the ‘Bicycle and Scooter Guidelines’ document (obtained from the Front Office). These signed forms are to be returned to the office. Once we have received the signed documentation, the school will record that your child has permission from you to ride to school. Please see Mrs Vermiglio or the office for details.

Lost Property

All lost property is now kept in the office.

All students have been informed of this and are all reminded to put their name on their hats, jackets, jumpers, all lunch/recess containers and drink bottles.
