Coffee and Chat

We will be holding our Coffee and Chat afternoon on Thursday 13th February in classrooms. This will be an opportunity to meet teachers and find out about classroom organisation. Please come along and meet the teachers and other parents. If you need to bring your child along a reminder that they will be your responsibility for the duration of the meetings.

I would particularly like to welcome new families to our school community. Luddenham Public School prides itself on being inclusive and welcoming and we wish our new families every success.

I am looking forward to meeting with, and chatting to more families as the term progresses.

 Have a wonderful fortnight.

Learning and Support

Welcome back to the new school year.  I am excited to be supporting the staff and students again this year at Luddenham PS.  In the coming weeks I will be sending home learning support home reading permission notes.  Home reading has many benefits which I will expand upon in the next newsletter.

Please consider this opportunity and return the note to the school office as soon as possible.  I look forward to partnering with you in your child's learning  journey.

Library Borrowing

Borrowing will commence in Week 3 this year. K/1/2 and 2/3/4 will go to the library every Tuesday while 4/5/6's library day will be Thursday. During this time your child will get the opportunity to borrow up to 3 books. In order to borrow, your child will need to bring a library bag to protect their books. This can be a strong shopping bag, a plastic bag or even a pillowcase! Students who do not bring a bag will not be permitted to borrow. Books should be returned the next week on your child's library day.

K-6 Assembly

The next K-6 Assembly will be held in Week 3 on Wednesday 12th February at 2:20pm.

Gymnastics Program

Throughout Term 1 Activated Group will be delivering an 8 week Gymnastics Program each Friday between 9:20am and 12:20pm. The program will cover content from the Australian PDHPE Curriculum.

Each session will run for approximately 50 minutes. The program caters for children in all classes from Kindergarten to Year 6, including skills such as rotation, spring, swing, locomotion, balance, and climbing/hanging.

The cost for this engaging program is $65 per student for the entire 8 weeks, however our school, together with our generous P&C are funding $55 per student, so the cost to families is only $10.

Children will be required to wear their school sports uniform with appropriate footwear (as usual on a Friday) while participating in the program, to ensure their comfort and safety.

Please return permission notes and payment to the office by Thursday 13th February.

Swimming Carnival

This year’s Small Schools Swimming Carnival will be a twilight carnival held on Tuesday 18th February at Ripples Penrith from 7-9pm. A note was sent home on Friday.

The carnival is open to students turning 8 years or older in 2020 who can swim competently and unaided.

Please return the permission notes with the relevant race selections ticked and initialled by Monday 10th February so that Mrs Treharne can send off the information to the organising school.

Parent Helpers

Whether or not you are a working parent or have a family with small children, or have plenty of time on your hands, there are many ways you can help our school. You can help out in the classroom with reading or maths groups, help in the canteen on a Friday, participate in school fundraising, help with the grounds maintenance, help out at sporting carnivals timekeeping etc We encourage all our families to become a part of our school community and appreciate all offers of help.

Student Banking

Welcome to all our returning and new Luddenham students and families!

At our school we take part in the Commonwealth Student Banking program.  Every Thursday, if you bring your bank book with some money to Mrs Wilson or Mrs Chapple in the office, they will bank the money for you and return your bank book.  After every ten deposits, you will be able to choose a reward from the range offered this year.

This year's Dollarmite theme is 'Treetop Savers' and the Term 1 rewards are Terry Denton's Activity Book and a Mini Soccer Ball.

Luddenham Show

The Luddenham Show will be held on the 7th and 8th March and Mrs Wacker is happy to enter children's school work.  However, there are many other opportunities for the children (and parents) to participate in categories that either can't be done at school or are not practical, for example cooking and or decorating cakes, photography, scarecrow making, scrapbooking and many, many more. This is a great way to have fun being creative and contributing to our community.

For more information you can visit the website at https://luddenhamshow.com.au/ or the Luddenham Show Society facebook page.

My Trans Tasman Adventure - by Ryan

During the school holidays, I participated in the final ever Trans Tour for Little Athletics, which was held in New Zealand. The Tour involved some sight-seeing activities and cultural New Zealand experiences as well as a big athletics competition held at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland – The Trans Tasman Challenge, which is an athletics carnival where New Zealand athletes verse NSW athletes.

Some of the Tour activities included a Maori Concert, Museum visit, Auckland Zoo, Rainbow’s End Fun Park, Rotorua Geothermal area and the aquarium. We got to stay at a traditional Maori Marae (special meeting place) and speak with some Maori elders and learn about their culture. We also had a day where I was hosted by a New Zealand Athlete and shown around their local area.

At the Trans Tasman Challenge, I came 1st place in discus, beating all the other NSW and New Zealand athletes. I had to throw a heavier discus than I normally throw. I came 3rd place in Shot Put. I also competed in a mixed (boys and girls) Field Event Relay, where I had to do one discus throw, one shot put and one long jump to earn points for our relay team and we came 2nd place.

I was really proud to be part of the final ever Trans Tasman Tour and my results. Unfortunately, the kiwis beat NSW in the Challenge Day and get to keep the big Trans Tasman Trophy in New Zealand.

P&C News

P&C Meeting

The first P&C Meeting for 2020 will be held in the library on Friday 14th February immediately after the morning assembly. The community will be notified of the  AGM as soon as possible and it will be followed immediately by a general meeting. Attending P&C meetings is the best way to find out what’s happening in our school.

Everyone is welcome—it would be lovely to see some new faces along with the old.

 Canteen

We are looking for volunteers to work in the canteen on a Friday. If a few people put their hand up you will only need to be available once or twice a term. Many hands make light work.

The canteen will be closed again this week but will be open next Friday, 14th February.

Money Matters

Payments to the school can be made via cash, cheque, EFTPOS or online using the ‘Make a Payment ‘ button on the website

Payments to the P&C for fundraising or canteen can be paid by cash or cheque. Please place payment in a separate envelope to school payments. Cheques should be made payable to Luddenham Public School P&C Association

Payments for Bookclub can be made online, in cash, or by cheque made out to Scholastic Australia
