Learning & Teaching

Place Value

The children in P,1& 2 have been very busy developing number sense and being able to demonstrate numbers (e.g money) using a range of mathematical representations to show understanding. They have used MAB blocks ( thousands, hundreds, tens & ones, unifix blocks, cubes and ten rods to make the number in their catalogue to "buy' their item. They then checked and rechecked to ensure their number was correct.( photos from Week 3)

STEAM

The Prep ,1 & 2's were working with the 5&6 children to complete their STEAM ( Science Technology, Engineering Arts & Maths) musical instruments challenge. The design had to meet the criteria of being able to produce, low, medium and high sounds/tones/ pitches. The children worked together discussing ideas, planning, designing and making their instrument . They were then tested to see whether they met the criteria. They used a range of mathematical engineering, language and art skills to achieve their results. The models were displayed at our Celebrate the Learning night.

Capacity

As a combined Mathematics and Science learning experience, the Year P,1 & 2's used a variety of containers of different shapes and sizes to measure volume and capacity. They used mathematical language to articulate their actions and appropriate mathematicians terms, e.g Capacity, Volume. In addition, they developed their understanding of science terms, concepts and language of floating and sinking.

Hands On!

Celebrate the Learning

On Thursday night, we celebrated the many achievements of the children over the year. They were very excited to showcase their work from across curriculum areas to their parents.

It was lovely to see families enjoying a special time together and celebrating the fabulous learning and gathering  in the Open Learning Space and courtyard to for a catch up.

Thanks to the Sports Committee who provided families with the opportunity to enjoy a BBQ. It helped create a special atmosphere and filled hungry stomachs whilst waiting for dinner.

We look forward to our Whole School Christmas get together Monday 16th December.

A big thanks to the teachers for all the work involved in providing this opportunity for our children and their families.

Walk to School Breakfast

Please use this opportunity to encourage your child /children to walk, ride or scoot to school throughout October. It is great to develop healthy practices, which have both excellent physical and mental health rewards.

To celebrate we will have a Walk to School Breakfast on Thursday 14th November starting at 8:15 am. Waffles and Pancakes are on the menu!

Year 6 School & Family Dinner 7 pm

Hello everyone, it's nearing the end of the school year already!

Our grade 6 children will be transitioning into high school in the coming weeks.  It's a St Timothy's tradition that we hold a parent organised graduation dinner for the grade 6 children and parents which is held after the graduation mass (all school families are most welcome to attend the mass).   This year's Mass (6pm) and Dinner (7pm) at St Timothy's will be held on Tuesday December 17th.  This is a very special occasion for the children as they are surrounded by their families, friends and teachers as they celebrate and reflect on their primary school years and look forward to their new adventures in Secondary School.

We would love to extend a warm invitation for the offer of assistance to all the families across the year levels. If you would like to assist we would love and appreciate in the coming weeks if you could please either donate a bottle of soft drink/juice or a bag of sweets.  All donations can be put in a marked box "graduation" in the Parents room.We will be sending out further details/requests in the coming weeks for offers for the salad/dessert or to help on the night. With love and gratitude,

 Grade 6 families.
