Dear Parents and Community Members,

Our School Board election finalised this week and two new parent representatives will be inducted onto the Board in due course.  Prior to community / public notification, all new members must undertake a Criminal History Screening Check.  Once this check is completed and cleared, both new members will be announced.  Once again, I sincerely thank all community members who nominated for positions on the Board, along with all parents / carers who voted in this process.

Our Literacy Leaders conducted two wonderful reading workshops this week highlighting the value of reading at home and how reading is taught at school.  A massive thanks to Miss Martin, Mrs Ranford, Miss Larkin, and Mr Lillico for giving up their valuable time prior to the workshop (to prepare) and during the session to deliver.  The quality of engagement from those in attendance was impressive and the level of questioning highly appropriate.  Information from the sessions will be distributed to class teachers who will forward via class Connect pages.  Look out for more curriculum-based workshops in the near future.

Finally, NAPLAN (National Assessment Program, Literacy & Numeracy) commences for our Year Three and Five students this week.  While I am hoping all children are able to demonstrate their ability in all areas assessed, my greatest concern is that all children are well rested and free of any associated anxiety.

Health and Hygiene

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve.

Healthy WA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

Department of Health LINK

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.

Confidence

At Glengarry we expect our students to be confident because of the care and support we provide.  We believe self-assurance in children at school comes as a result of collective support that enables them to thrive.  We trust that through support and education, students have the power to be confident and believe in themselves.
