Term 1 Week 10 - Wednesday, 30th March

Respect | Responsibility | Relationships

A message from our Principal

Week 10, Term 1

Thank you

Yet again, we sincerely thank our school community for their patience as we navigate this difficult period of high student and staff absences. As a staff we are committed to pushing on and providing our students with the best possible schooling experience. Thank you to the staff for their amazing flexibility and teamwork.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews have commenced this week and will continue next week and at the beginning of Term 2. Thanks to everyone for engaging with our online booking system through the Sentral Parent Portal. If you haven’t been able to book an interview time, please contact your class teacher through See Saw or Class Dojo to arrange a suitable time.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

Today Kindergarten held their annual Teddy Bear’s Picnic. Despite highly threatening weather and after all the cancellations od previous years, it was so nice to have a happy event with all of our parents involved. Well done to all the students and teachers for making the day a great success, particularly Miss King for her organisation.

Cross Country

Next Friday weather permitting, WWSPS will have its school Cross-Country for Years 2-6. All students are strongly encouraged to get in and have a go, whether it be a walk, jog or run. We will be conducting this event at Rogers Park. All students who returned their yellow general permissions note at the start of the year already have the documentation they need for the day.

Easter Hat Parade

Next Wednesday April 6, will see the return of another one of our favourite school events – the Easter Hat Parade. We warmly invite family and friends to attend on the day and be a part of the event.

Student Attendance

While we are aware that there is currently the obvious challenges in the area, a reminder that the Department of Education sets baseline student attendance at 85%. Due to new targets set for our school for the next 3 years, we (and DoE Home/School Liaison Officers) will be monitoring this very closely over the next 12 months. As you will be aware our school uses an SMS system to reply with reasons for leave. Justifiable reasons as advised by the Department of Education include –

·         being sick or having an infectious disease (e.g. COVID)

·         having an unavoidable medical appointment

·         being required to attend a recognised religious holiday

·         exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g. attending a funeral.

As this is the last newsletter for Term 1, I would like to wish you all a very happy Easter and hope you are all able to enjoy some quality time with family and friends.

Kind regards,

Matt Barr

Principal

THANK YOU - Flood Relief Mufti Day/ Easter Raffle

Thank you to all the people that wore mufti day to raise money for the flood victims and to all those people who donated and purchased raffle tickets for our Easter Raffle. In total we have raised $2000 that will go towards helping those affected by the Northern NSW flood victims. This amount of money is something to be incredibly proud of, what a wonderful effort from our WWS community.

The Easter prizes will be drawn out this Friday at our assembly - GOOD LUCK to the ticket holders, there is 1000 tickets in the jackpot.

Positive Behavioural Learning

PBL “Positive Behavioural Learning” Focus – Week 10

This week, our focus is showing Respect, Responsibility and Relationships when using the ‘Bike area’. Students are learning to store bikes safely, push their bikes through the school, wear a helmet and leave other students’ bikes alone. Showing respect for other students’ property and respecting our own bikes and scooters is an important responsibility of students who use their bikes at WWS.

PBL “Positive Behavioural Learning” Focus – Week 11

The excitement is building as next week students can reap the rewards of showing respect, responsibility and positive relationships by attending the Bluey’s Reward Day. Students have been reminded to continue showing the 3R’s especially next Friday. Students are encouraged to be at the right place at the right time and to participate enthusiastically in all activities. A special task this term is to encourage classmates with their positive behaviour and reward choices. This will ensure that all students have a wonderful and well deserved day of fun at our school.

Harmony Day - Monday 21st March to Friday 25th March 2022

What a fabulous Harmony Week it was last week here at WWS! During the week we have had a day where we wore a touch of orange, we celebrated different foods with our buddy classes and had a picnic together. We also had in class craft activities where we discussed how we can be respectful, inclusive and make everyone feel as though they belong. We celebrated that our diversity is our strength! We are proud to support the positive message of Harmony Week.
