Principal's Message

End of term

This is the final newsletter for Term 2 and as I look back on another term, I do not know if there is a better word to describe it then ‘hectic’. As I am sure you are aware, both students and staff have continued to be significantly impacted by illness throughout Term 2. Not so much by Covid-19, but rather Influenza A and a variety of viruses that have struck those impacted for more than a day or two in many instances. This may have meant that your child’s class has had their regular teacher away for more than a day or two this term. All I can say is, thank you for your understanding and patience when this has occurred.

We do our best to minimise the disruption caused by absences but accept there has been a little more disruption this term then we would have liked. Again I congratulate our students for showing great resilience and cooperation and for continuing to work hard in the classroom.

Although, I did not go along on the Stage 1 excursion last Wednesday, from all reports, it was a highlight of the term! Likewise for our students, they should be  commended on their engagement, manners and behaviour and the excited stories that they shared the next day were priceless.

Parent-Teacher interviews

Our parent-teacher interviews are scheduled to take place this week, with the vast majority occurring on Tuesday. At the time of writing, interviews have been booked for 76% of our students. This is fantastic and a significant increase compared with the last two years. The teachers and I are extremely grateful that so many of you can join us for an interview whether that is face to face or over the phone. All face-to-face interviews will take place in your child’s classroom unless advised otherwise. Although the interviews are scheduled in 15-minute intervals, our bells will ring after 13 minutes as a signal to teachers to begin to wrap up the interview. We are using the school bell to assist us in trying to keep all interviews running to time. If there are more things that you need to discuss with your child’s teacher than the time allows, please discuss with them if you could have another opportunity to come back or speak with them on the phone. We look forward to seeing you during the week.

NSW Teacher’s Federation Strike

The school is still awaiting official advice before we can distribute the organisational arrangements for the planned Industrial Action this Thursday 30 June. At this stage, it is very likely that the strike will impact school operations. Thank you for your patience while waiting for confirmation of school arrangements. We expect to be able to confirm the details with you on Monday.

I wanted to inform the community that I will be taking some long service leave for the first 2 weeks of Term 3. Mrs Kristen Saunders will be relieving as principal and will be supporting our students, teachers and parents for this period. Miss O’Connor will also be stepping up to relieve for Mrs Saunders as the Stage 1 Assistant Principal during this period. The school will be in good hands for this period. I look forward to returning well-rested and ready to tackle the challenges of Term 3. I hope that you all are able to enjoy a fantastic school holiday break with your children.

 Influenza A

Over the past month, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of students presenting with Influenza A symptoms. Many families are reporting to us that it is impacting children more than Covid-19 may have. For further advice on Influenza A, please visit the NSW Health website below for good advice and guidance on supporting your child.

Have a great week.
