Principal's Message

Welcome to Week 2. I trust that although no doubt busy, you have all had a good first week back at school for Term 3.

Our Winter Plan

With COVID-19 and the flu circulating in the community, COVID smart measures in schools have been updated during the week.

During Term 3, we continue to prioritise student and staff learning and wellbeing with our layered COVID-smart measures, which will include:

  • Rapid antigen tests (RATS) for symptomatic testing and daily testing for close contacts returning to school
  • maximising natural ventilation
  • enhanced hygiene and cleaning
  • strongly encouraging vaccination for students and staff
  • staying home if unwell
  • strongly encouraging mask wearing for staff, students and visitors, particularly in the first four weeks of school
  • staying home and getting tested if unwell, and only attending school when symptom-free

Enhanced cleaning focuses on high-touch areas and other hard surfaces, door handles, light switches and handrails in stairways and movement areas.

Another round of RATs will be delivered to our school shortly, which we will provide you in the form of 1 multipack of 5 RAT kits per student. Families who do not require RAT kits to be sent home are asked to contact the school office to advise.

In the meantime, we have a supply of testing kits for those families that require some. Please don't hesitate to contact the school office and we will send some home with your child.

Education Week

Public schools across NSW will celebrate Education Week from Monday 1 August to Friday 5 August 2022. At Lambton, we are combining Education Week with Book Week with the activities planned for focusing on the Book Week theme ‘Dreaming With Your Eyes Open’. We are thrilled to be able to invite parents into the school on Tuesday 2 August for a number of special events, however, to allow this to go ahead, we need to consider the current covid advice and the health and safety of our school community. Consequently, the following COVID-Safety measures will be in place during our Book Week/Education week event;

  • All visitors on site must check-in (QR Codes will be located outside all classrooms and at various locations around the school)
  • All visitors are required to wear a mask while at the event and on school premises
  • Visitors are to use the sanitising stations as they enter buildings
  • Visitors will only be permitted in the outdoor COLA area of the hall during the book character parade
  • Anyone with symptoms is not to attend
  • Visitors who are a close contact with someone with COVID need to inform the school and conduct a rapid antigen test (RAT), returning a negative result in the morning before attending
  • Visitors are required to leave directly after the event.

During our Education Week/Book Week Event, we invite all parents to visit our Book Fair and take advantage of this opportunity to purchase new reading material for your child. We’d love you to visit with your child during open classrooms. This is an opportunity for your child to show you their learning environment and showcase some of their learning. Following open classrooms, we will move to the hall for our annual Book Character Parade and look forward to seeing students come to school dressed up as their favourite book characters for this exciting part of the day. We hope this is an enjoyable event for the whole school community and a fun day for our students.

In the upcoming week, we will monitor any changes to departmental policy and communicate as necessary.

Have a great week.

Kristen Saunders - Relieving Principal

Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to all our amazing students who competed in our Athletics Carnival last Tuesday.

Although it was a wet and cold day, it was fantastic to see the school community come together and to see students step way outside their comfort zone to participate to the best of their ability, all striving to do their best for their house.  LPS spirit was alive and well!

Certificates for place getters will be awarded during our Week 5 assembly.

The upcoming Zone Athletics Carnival is scheduled to take place on Friday 12th August.  Further details of this event will be communicated as soon as they become available.

100 Days of Kindergarten

Kindergarten celebrated 100 days of being at school last Friday. It was such a fun day had by all. Students engaged in a range of rotation activities in the KJ & KH classrooms. K/1C came up to join us for these special activities. The activities included;
  • using our Ziplock bag of 100 items from home we made a number 100 artwork (will come home next week)
  • 100 days smarter crown or glasses craft
  • build a tower out of 100 unifix cubes
  • add up the dots on dominoes to a total of 100
  • build a creation out of 100 Lego or Duplo blocks
  • create and colour a '100-day smarter' mini booklet
If your child did not get the chance to do all activities, they may have brought home some to complete. If your child was away sick, we have some spare templates they can collect from the teachers on Monday. We thank you for making the effort to dress-up as a grandpa or grandma, we had lots of laughs! We made memories that will last forever!

Thank you to our wonderful Kindergarten teachers but also all the teachers and staff who got into the spirit of the day!

Granny Gillard had a hoot!

NAIDOC Week Art Competition

Congratulations to our NAIDOC Week Art Competition winners. Their artworks will soon be on display in our school foyer.

The task of picking entries from each class and finally a winner from each stage was extremely difficult given the quality of the artworks. The artworks of each stage's finalists are shown below and are on display in our school hall.

NAIDOC Week Traditional Indigenous games

During NAIDOC week, all classes celebrated through participating in traditional indigenous games. It was wonderful to have community connections as the games were led by a grandparent of one of our students, Gerlad Bradshaw from the Office of Sport.

Through these games students had a chance to build their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and participate in physical activity. The activities combined curriculum principles and cultural traditions in sport-related activities for all year groups, while ensuring the integrity of traditional games. Lambton Public School students enjoyed their involvement in inclusive and structured sport.
