Poonindie Community Learning Centre Newsletter

Term 4 Week 1 - 2019

From the Principal

Dear Poonindie Community Learning Centre Staff, Parents and Students,

I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday break. Unfortunately some of the work on the administration building work was not completed in the holidays. I appreciate how well staff, students and parents have handled the inconvenience. Fortunately the work will be completed by the end of the week, with the exterior wall looking great.

Our  SRC Movie/Pyjama day was a huge success. We raised $330.70 for our school and it was a nice relaxing day to finish the term. This term SRC will be having a Bandana Day on October 25th to raise money for for CanTeen, which supports young people with cancer. Please consider donating to this cause and purchase a bandana for $5 from the front office. There are some really great designs so get in quick!

I'm also looking forward to taking the SRC and Year 7 leaders to the Champions Academy event in Port Lincoln on Tuesday 29th of October. This will involve  30 high profile mentors facilitating a day of problem solving around key issues and challenges of the students' community.

Our Student Free Day was very productive. Staff were able to look at data in depth, see which students may need more support and plan for further improvement in teaching and learning.

The Combined Sports Day with Ungarra and Port Neill is on Friday Week 3, 1st of November. We encourage volunteers to help run events on the day and provide salads and cakes. A note will be sent home with a return slip. Thank you in advance.

Assemblies will run on odd weeks this term, beginning with the 6/7 Class this Friday. The 2020 Principal Sally Cormack will be attending to introduce herself to parents. I hope to see as many of you there as possible. Parents are also welcome to attend our Governing Council meeting on Wednesday 23rd of October 5.30pm.

We welcome Colleen Gay to the year 6/7 Class for weeks 2-5 this term. She will be undertaking her second teaching practicum under the guidance of Clint Beard.

It has been great to see so many students remember their hats. If you haven't brought them yet, please do otherwise you will be sitting under the bus shelter.

It will no doubt be a busy term of fun and learning. Enjoy!

Kind Regards,

Rory Hunt

Acting Principal

Kindy News

TERM 4 has started positively with the weeks already filling up fast!

* Transition to school begins at PCLC from weeks 3- 6 this term. 13 of this year’s cohort are heading to Tammy Stratford’s class in 2020. We have a consistent continuity of learning between the sites and this continues to help our children build strong and caring relationships with school staff and students throughout the whole year, not just during the 4 week transition program. We find this to be very beneficial for our children to cut down on anxiety and the “unknown” over the other side of the fence. Rory and I are passionate about this continuity of learning and continue to invite and include each other in daily experiences and special events. Our two children who will be attending St Josephs  have already started transitioning on a Tuesday.

*Shanny is out in weeks 3 and 4 on Long Service leave. Sarah will be Shanny with Brooke Slater joining the team also.

*This term our focus is on ‘Starting School’ and school readiness skills: explicitly teaching packing our bags independently, growth mindset, writing our name, dispositions for learning, responsibility for our own belongings, school worries or questions.

*Educators and children are busy organising our ‘SILENT AUCTION’ at the Beer Garden Brewing for our kindy families and friends. This is our end of year parent celebration and to raise money for our lttle kindy. Our children have been working hard throughout the year on group art pieces to sell at the auction. If you wish to attend please RSVP Shanny by Friday week 6: November 22nd. OUR SILENT AUCTION IS ON FRIDAY NOVEMBER 29TH. 7-10PM.

WE HOPE EVERYONE HAS A FABULOUS LAST TERM! WHERE HAS THIS YEAR GONE?

Pyjama/Movie Fundraiser

Last day of Term 3 we held a Pyjama/Movie Day as a school fundraiser. We raised $330.70, $72.00 of which was donated by "That Coffee Cart". We thank them for their support.

3/4 Class Tennis Day

On the 25th September, the 3/4 class attended a tennis tournament in Port Lincoln. We played against teams from Navigator College and Kirton Point Primary School. Wee rotated playing different teams for the day. We had a lot of fun and all slept well!!

Student Free Day

On Monday the 14th October, the teachers had a very productive student free day. The upended building didn't deter from the teachers discussions on your children's achievements.
