MAGPIE MESSENGER TERM 2 WEEK 8

Issue 9 2019

Term 2 Week 8

Heathcote Public School

From the Principal's Desk

A Message from the Principal

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our hard working staff for the multitude of extra-curricular activities they offer for our students. These include band, sport, drama, debating, dance and public speaking at events like Create South, ‘In The Spotlight’ Drama and Dance Festivals, Schools Spectacular, Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival, Band Fest, Bandtastic, Band Camp, Zone sports carnivals and weekly PSSA sport.

We are lucky to have such dedicated teachers in our school who put in a lot of time and effort to ensure these opportunities are available.

Ride-A-Thon

On Thursday 27 June we will be holding a Ride-A-Thon.  This is a joint venture with the P&C to raise funds to improve our school playground.

The Ride-A-Thon will take place from 9:00am - 3:00pm on the school's oval.

Students will be asked to bring their bikes to school where they will participate in a theory lesson on bike safety and then ride a set course around the school for twenty minutes.

Students who do not have a bike may bring along their scooter.  For safety reasons all children will be required to wear a helmet when riding their bike or scooter.

There will be a prize for the highest fundraiser in K-2 and Years 3-6. There will also be one 'lucky draw' prize per class for every child who returns money.

Please return all sponsor cards and money by Thursday 27 June.

Thank you to Engadine Cycles & Scooters for your kind donation of two scooters as prizes for our Ride-A-Thon! The students are very excited!

Have a wonderful fortnight!

STAGE 3 MADD

On the 6 June, Stage 3 went to Heathcote High School for the MADD performance. There were two other schools in attendance, Waterfall and Heathcote East. There were a variety of performances that included music, drama, dance, singing and our very own Drama group who performed. All performances were amazing. It was really enjoyable, fun and entertaining.

Thank you Heathcote High for inviting us to attend your MADD performance.

Create South

Heathcote Public School takes to the stage!

Six talented pupils from Heathcote Public School were given the opportunity to be part of this year’s Create South production ‘Scientia’.

Create South is a gifted and talented program for students in drama, dance, band, choir, art and technology. The program’s main goal is to foster the skills and talents of primary aged students and extend their skills beyond the classroom. Students are encouraged to work with specialist teachers and other like minded students to build and create a cohesive and engaging musical within three days.

This year, Heathcote Public School was lucky to have six students in the Create South program. The students showcased their skills in dance and visual arts.  What better way to perform than to a sold out Sutherland Entertainment Centre!

The HPS students enjoyed every aspect of being part of Create South's 20th musical.

Mr Campbell

Debate

On Friday 14 June, the Heathcote Debating Team competed in round 3 of the Sydney Primary School's Debating Competition.

Heathcote PS - Team A defeated Heathcote PS - Team B in a very close and competitive debate.

The topic was 'takeaway food is better than a home cooked meal'.

Good luck to Heathcote PS - Team A in the finals!

    We need your help please!

As you know School Banking @HPS is processed by parent volunteers.  But just like you, our team are busy (some of whom have been helping out at school banking for over 10 years) and we are now short of volunteers as some have had to reduce their days due to increased work commitments.

So we need your HELP.  We urgently need at least 3 more parent volunteers to ensure we can continue to run CBA School Banking at HPS.  We currently have over 150 students taking part in school banking so we are hoping that finding 3 more school banking parent helpers is not a big ask!  If you can spare just 2 hours on a Monday only 2-3 times a term then please call our School Banking Coordinator, Helen Holloway on 0434 120 218, or let the office know.  Your help will be greatly appreciated.

From the HPS School Banking team,

Connie, Lisa, Danielle, Sandee, Kerin, Gemima & Helen

    HOOSH

We are very excited to announce that Direct Debit is here!

All families should have received an email on Friday regarding the new direct debit facilities which will allow all HOOSH fees to be debited automatically from either your bank account or credit card.  If all families  please complete the direct debit form available from HOOSH as this will commence Term 3.

Winter has hit!  We would like to remind parents to please send their children with their jackets, particularly as the weather can change quickly.  If you lose any items at HOOSH feel free to come and take a look at our lost property list.

HOOSH meeting will be 6pm on Tuesday 18 June in the HOOSH room (1hr before P&C meeting).

As always, if your child is away sick or you have travel plans during the school term which coincide with the days your child attends HOOSH, please let us know when you advise the school.

If you require urgent casual placements please contact Alana on 0437 001 752 or email hoosh@live.com.au.
