Welcome Back to Term 2

Today we had K-6 school photos. It was great to see all the students in full school uniform and with beautiful smiles on their faces.

Preschool photos are on the 14 May for the Yellow Possums and Red Wombats, and the 16 May for the Blue Emus.

As most of you would be aware, KidsMatter has now been replaced by BeYou. BeYou is a national initiative for educators, aimed at promoting and protecting positive mental health in children and young people. Their vision is for an education system in which every learning community is positive, inclusive and resilient, and where every child, young person, staff member, and family can achieve their best possible mental health. If you would like further information you can access the website https://beyou.edu.au/.

At Curtin our whole school social/emotional program Friendly Schools Plus provides classroom lessons to develop the children’s social skills, create supportive environments and assist in reducing bullying in school communities. Lessons include stories, discussions and role play.

PBL – Positive Behaviours for Learning is also a whole school initiative which sits alongside both of these programs. It aims to improve the learning and well-being of all students in all school settings by creating a safe and supportive school climate. All staff are responsible for teaching the behaviour expectations, providing consistent positive feedback to students, and delivering consistent corrective feedback and consequences when expectations are not followed. One of these consequences is the reflection room at lunchtimes.

Overarching all of this is our student support and well-being team who work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents to ensure our school is a safe and supportive environment for learning for all members.

Some staffing news to share. Our ICT release will now be taken by Ms Amanda McGirr on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Ms Elizabeth Holdsworth on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Please welcome them to our school.
