Today, Wednesday 4 September 2019 - is Indigenous Literacy Day.
This is a national celebration of Indigenous culture, stories, language and literacy.
Dear Poonindie Community Learning Centre Staff, Parents and Students,
Year 1 phonics testing occurred last week. There was some pleasing improvement from last year’s results. This reflects the fantastic teaching and learning efforts from the year 1 teachers and students.
I have also been impressed with the efforts of the R-2 students in their Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) tests this week. The data collected from these results will inform teachers on how they can further improve their teaching programs and learning opportunities for students. The year 3-7 students will commence their PAT tests next week. Having PAT reading and numeracy tests occur from Reception to Year 7 allows staff to track student growth.
Preliminary NAPLAN results have been distributed to our school, with parent reports to be here in approximately 1 week. The results of our Year 3, 5 and 7 cohorts are great and I’m proud of the students, teachers and parents who have contributed to this.
Governing Council have granted us a STUDENT FREE DAY for the first day of Term 4, Monday, October 14th. This day will provide staff an opportunity to analyse data sets and plan for improvement. There will also be a SCHOOL CLOSURE on Friday, November 8th. This will give families a chance to travel to Adelaide and attend the Christmas pageant on Saturday the 9th of November. I went last year and my children loved it!
I am extremely proud of how well our school is operating. The External Review team gave our school a glowing report, which I will share with you all once the document is finalised. Thank you to all parents, students and staff for all your positive comments about our school. Please fill out the PARENT SURVEY by clicking on the blue 2019 Parent Survey bar linked to this newsletter. This will give us more important feedback for our school.
Lets keep up the great work at Poonindie Community Learning Centre!
Kind Regards,
Rory Hunt
Acting Principal
Hi.
Hope you all have enjoyed your last few weeks. Did any of you get to the Royal Adelaide Show?
SEWING CLASSES: I had 5 students attend the 4 week classes and all seemed to enjoy learning a few more skills with sewing machines. They made bookmarks and also ipad/phone covers. Each one looked terrific.
I am hoping to provide this opportunity for year 6/7 students next year. If interested let me know and I'll keep you updated when it gets closer.
GIRLWISE & BOYWISE books. We have been reading these books to the 4/5 students and I think they have enjoyed the subjects covered during this time.
I would like to recommend these books written by Sharon Witt. There are 4 books for girls:
and 1 book for boys:
They are available to borrow from the library and also I have a girls set. You are welcome to borrow any of them from me.
REMINDER My "MAILBOX" is ready to use for anyone to put a note about a concern, make a time to chat etc. It is in between the staff room and the library.
*This is confidential and private. Only I have a key*.
Looking forward to seeing you around
Take Care
Helen,
Today, Wednesday 4 September 2019 - is Indigenous Literacy Day.
This is a national celebration of Indigenous culture, stories, language and literacy.
Last Thursday Bu Ling shared Indonesian Cooking with the whole school, it was a very busy day in the staff room. Fun learning experience was had by all.
On Monday 19th August we had Brayden Frost from the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) visit and give each class some cricket drills. Lots of fun was had by all.
Using part of our 2018 Fete funds, we have installed a drinking and art washing trough outside the year 4/5 class.
On the 20th September, "That Coffee Cart" (TCC) was invited out to supply beverages to the school and wider community. It was a fabulous community social morning, where parents/carers were able to share a coffee and yarn in true Poonindie style. Students loved the idea and have put forward a suggestion to collaborate with Tim (TCC) for a future fundraiser.
2019 Book Week a resounding success, with our very generous community. We raised a staggering $2163.00 which enabled our school to get books to the value of $650.00 for our library.
Rebels Softball Club is looking for new people for the coming season for our junior grade and our senior teams, please contact Tania Kemp on 0402544774 . Uniforms and some equipment supplied
