Principal's Report

Assembly

Our first school assembly will be a whole school one on Friday at 8:45am.  At this assembly we will be acknowledging the new Student Councillors and Faction Captains for 2019 as well as new staff and students.  I hope to see you there.

Collecting Students

Parents are reminded that they must come to the Office to collect a yellow slip or printed sticker if they wish to remove their child from a class during school hours.  Teachers will not release students without this slip. This is a safety process and I ask that you support us by following the procedure.  Please see me if you have any questions.

New School Year

The holidays certainly flew by and it does not seem long ago that we were farewelling the Year 6 students at the end of the last school year.  I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and you are full of energy ready for an exciting year ahead.  There are already a number of activities and events planned and I am sure you will enjoy sharing them with your child/ren.  Please keep an eye out for announcements but also refer to the Term Planner on the website.  We utilise social media to announce events and publicise happenings at the school.  Don’t forget to download the Skoolbag app and our Facebook page for instant news.

One of the big changes for this year is changing the daily times.  The start and finish does not change but instead of having a forty minute lunch break, we have broken it into two twenty minute breaks.  The first one is to eat lunch at 12:10 to 12:30 with another twenty minute break at 1:30 to 1:50. The second break will have a number of different activities children can be involved in as well as give them time to have an afternoon snack.  We look forward to the feedback from this restructure.

As with all years, we have a number of new staff and students to the school.  I am sure they will all enjoy their time at O’Connor PS and enjoy being involved in all the activities that occur.  A full teaching staff list with class allocations is included in this newsletter.  If any parent has any questions, do not hesitate in contacting your child’s teacher or the Admin for clarification.  We also welcome the new families to the school and I am sure their children will settle into O’Connor Primary School very quickly.  I am looking forward to a very exciting year and I am sure you will enjoy being part of it.

Open Board Meeting

Our first Board meeting for 2019 will be held on Wednesday 20th February at 7pm in the school staffroom.  This is an open meeting for any parent or community member who would like to attend to see what happens at Board meetings.  We may be calling for new members later in the term and this gives you an opportunity to get a good understanding of the Board’s role and how you could become involved, if you wished. If you cannot make the meeting but are still interested in learning more, please contact me so I can pass information on.  The Board plays a vital role in ensuring our school continues to grow and develop for the benefit of all.

Parent Information Evening

Teachers will be holding a Parent Information Session on Tuesday 12th February, during the evening.  This gives parents an opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and get some valuable information on how the class will operate throughout the year.  I would encourage all parents to take this opportunity and come along.  A schedule is included in this newsletter and it has also been sent out via Skoolbag and Facebook.  You may also get an invitation via your child as well.  I look forward to seeing you at the school on the night.

Information and class times available on the website.

Before School

Parents are asked to remind their children to come to the Undercover Area prior to the first bell, unless you are waiting with them at their room.  This is a safety request as having the students in the Undercover Area ensures they can be supervised correctly.  Parents are also reminded that students should not be at school too early as it will make it a very long day.  Please see me if you have any questions.

Parents are also reminded that we have the Breakfast Club before school on Tuesday and Thursday and Active Club on Wednesday and Friday.  Both activities are a great opportunity for a bit of socialising among the students and staff.  Please see the website for further information.

Uniform Shop

The Uniform Shop has been extremely busy so far this year and ,unfortunately, some items have sold out. The lovely ladies who man the shop are mothers who volunteer their time to make sure our students are looking their best. Please keep this in mind and be patient when doing business with them. The new stock should be here soon.

The Uniform Shop is open on Tuesday between 8.30 and 9.00 and on Thursday between 2.30 and 3.00.
