      Principal's Message

      Dear Community

Welcome back everyone! We had a fantastic start to Term 3 with NAIDOC activities each afternoon throughout the week. Students enjoyed learning about some Noongar language and culture and participating in a range of Noongar themed games and activities. Check out some of the photos below and read on to learn about some of our upcoming events and activities this term.

      Before and after school activities

During term 3 the following activities are available to our students outside of school hours

      • Mondays 2:30 to 3:30: Choir for students in year 4-6 in the music room
      • Wednesdays 8:10 to 8:40: Running club for students from years 1-6 on the school oval. In week 4 this term we will be adding sports carnival tabloid practice to this session.
      • Thursdays 8:30 to 8:50: Reading club. For any students who would like to read to one of our amazing EAs or a buddy in the library.
      • Fridays 3:10 to 3:40: Taiko drumming for students in year 4-6 in the music room.

      Upcoming events

      • Interschool Cross Country, Friday 5/8. Selected students from Years 3-6 will be bringing a note home today. They have been practicing hard at Running Club and we know we will be proud of their efforts on the day!
      • Week 4 is Winter Walk to School Week. Stay tuned for more details, but we will be holding Welly Boot Wednesday on 10/8 and can’t wait to see a rainbow of colours!
      • Speak Up Regional Finals will be held on Tuesday 9/8 and we have Loh-Relm Chin, Harry Lawson and Neve Madden representing our school.
      • Year 5/6 Camp will be held in Bickley from Wednesday 10/8 to Friday 12/8. We know they will have a great time!
      • Book Week will run across Week 6 with a range of activities for students and culminating in a dress up day and parade on the Friday. See the next newsletter for more details.
      • Athletics Carnival has been tentatively booked for Week 7, with Throws and Distance races being held on Tuesday 30/8 and running races and tabloids on Friday 2/9. Location will be confirmed but it will likely be a combination of Deanmore Square and the School Oval.
      • Father’s Day Community Breakfast will be held on the morning of Friday 2/9, before the sports carnival

      Reminders

      • Could we please remind students and parents that they should dismount their bikes and scooters once they enter the school grounds and walk them to the bike/scooter racks. It is a safety issue for students in particular when bikes/scooters are ridden inside the school grounds.
      • Please continue to let us know if your children test positive or become close contacts for COVID.
      • Families who have applied for Kindy places for 2023 should be receiving their acceptance letters in the mail over the next week. Current Kindy students entering Pre-Primary in 2023 should have had their letters sent home with them this week.
      • School Photos should have been sent home with students today.

As always, if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to call or email me on Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data. The NCCD requires us to provide data about the number and learning needs of children at Scarborough, though the name of our school and the names of the students will not be reported. Information about the different types of needs, and the programs and resources the school uses to support children with additional needs and health related matters, will be collected.

The NCCD helps the school to better support our students and provides state and federal governments with information to plan more broadly to assist all students with disability.

Further information can be found at the NCCD Portal https://www.nccd.edu.au/sites/default/files/nccd_parent_fact_sheet_english_0.pdf

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.

      Book Week 2022

This term we will be celebrating Book Week. We have lots of fun, educational activities for our students to participate in.

Our annual Book Week Fancy Dress Parade will be held on Friday August 26.

Our theme for dress up this year is “Topsy Turvey”, For example an Astronaut in soccer shorts and boots, a Dinosaur with an ice-cream container head.

Basically a costume this year can be anything that students can ‘Dream up’.

We will also be holding an Illustrator Workshop with Western Australian Author/Illustrator Katie Stewart for our year 1-6 students and a tour of our local library for our Kindy and PP students.

      P&C News

Hello SPS Families and welcome to Term 3!

First off, we like to thank everyone who contributed towards the PJ Day last term! It was fantastic to see all PJs, Oodies etc. Great effort everyone!

You will be happy to hear that our annual Father’s Day Stall is back and will be held on Wednesday 31 August and Thursday 1 September before school. Get your children to do some chores around the house so they can save up this Father’s Day and spend BIG!

The organisation of the BINGO Night is in full swing and we’re excited to announce the date: Save the Date for Friday 21 October!!

We thank everyone who has reached out to help. We still need some extra hands, so if you want to help with the organisation, please get in touch with the P&C through email; scarboroughprimarypc@gmail.com and one of the organisers will be in touch.

Parents, if you have lost your child’s jumper or hat etc, please have a look in the school’s lost and found locker, which is located near the water fountain in the undercover area. There are currently a lot of items in the locker!! If these items aren’t collected by the end of Term 3, they will be donated to our Uniform Shop.

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 23rd August at 6.30pm in the school library. It would be fantastic to see new faces and hear ideas, so please join us!

If you have questions and/or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to email us at scarboroughprimarypc@gmail.com

      CANTEEN

We are always looking for canteen volunteers. So, if you or anyone in your immediate family (aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc) have any Friday mornings available, Laura would love some assistance in the SPS canteen.

Helping out in Canteen means that you come in and support Laura for 2 hours, usually between 10:00 am - 12:00 pm or 11:00 am – 1:00 pm; whatever works for you. Duties consist of washing dishes, prepping pizzas, handing out lunches, etc.

E-mail us at the P&C or speak to Laura on Fridays in the canteen if you are keen to help.

Please also note that all canteen orders need to be placed via QuickCliq prior to 8.30 am on Friday. Cash is not accepted.

      ENTERTAINMENT BOOK

We continue to fundraise through the Entertainment Book. When you purchase the Entertainment Book, a portion will go to the P&C.
