Principal's Message

 Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The term has passed very quickly with all the activities offered and we still have some exciting events to come.

I look forward to seeing our families enjoying a combined afternoon recess this Friday for our Harmony Day celebration. We will be  holding the State elections in our hall on Saturday and our wonderful P&C are  taking this opportunity to raise money for our students and a new senior playground.  Next week, Tuesday  28th we will have our final P&C meeting for the term. We would love to see new faces come along. Literacy@EHPS is on the Wednesday 29th where all classes will be showcasing what they are doing in Literacy sessions. We end the term with our Easter event on Thursday 6th April.

It is a busy time but well worth the organisation when you see the smiles of students and the proud looks they have when families see or share with them  what they are doing at school.

Make the most of the awesome moments.

Kathryn Duncan

Stage 3 Highlights

Reading Gems Update

Thank you to the families who have begun reading at home and are using the Reading Gems. We were excited to hand the first Emerald Awards last week.

Our school now has a system in place where classroom teachers need to enter the Gem Awards by Wednesday afternoon for them to be handed out at Assembly that Friday. This is to allow time for the information to be collated and awards written out in time for the assembly.

If your child returns their Home Reading Gems book after that Wednesday cut off (e.g. Thursday or Friday morning), the award will be carried over and handed out at the following weeks assembly.

Thank you to the families in K-2 who are actively participating in the home reading program using books from home. Students are becoming more confident using our new decodable readers and will be ready to bring home the new home readers very soon.

There will be more information for parents and carers around this at our ‘Reading at EHPS’ morning next week.

Clean Up School's Day

On Friday the 3rd of March, our school’s ‘Green Team’ undertook their first major job for the year and organised a whole school clean-up to coincide with ‘Clean Up Australia Day’.

We set out after assembly to clean up our school grounds, each grade was given an area to cover to ensure our whole school was clean… we could not believe how much rubbish was collected. Well done Green Team and students and staff at EHPS!

Zone Soccer Trials

Last week Nixon H, Ashton G, Eli G, Xavier W Nate A and Kaelan B took part in the Zone Soccer Boys trials and Sophia H took part in the Zone Soccer Girls trials. There was a lot of competition for spots and standard was reported as being very high.

After many games and chances to push for selection Nate A was successful in being selected to progress to the next level. Well done to all the students involved and congratulations and good luck to Nate.

Girls Australian Rules Football

Congratulations to Indiah who has been selected to represent the Mid North Coast and Inland at the NSW PSSA Girls AFL Championships in Batemans Bay next term.

Fantastic effort Indiah and good luck at State!

Hunter Region Swimming Carnival

On Tuesday 14 March Blake W, Eli G, Kobe S, Nate A and Luke K competed in the Regional Swimming Championships at The Forum. The swimming was of a high standard with many quick times being swam over the day.

Blake swam his 8 Years 50m freestyle winning his heat and taking 6 seconds off his Zone qualifying time. This placed him 6th overall.

Eli had a busy day competing in 5 events placing 1st in the 11 Years 50m Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly, 2nd in the 50m Breaststroke and 3rd in the All Ages 100m Freestyle. This has qualified Eli for the State Championships for all of these events.

The Senior Boys relay consisting of Eli G, Kobe S, Nate A and Luke K swam their hearts out and it was great to see how much they were pumping each other up. Luke swam first, followed by Kobe, then Nate and Eli brought it home. They finished 7th overall and improved their Zone qualifying time by more than 6seconds.

All the boys represented the school with pride and did Edgeworth Heights Public School proud with their efforts. Congratulations Eli on your success and good luck at State.

World's Greatest Shave

Last week Frank, Holly and Sharni took part and shaved/cut their hair for the World's Greatest Shave.  All monies raised goes to supporting Australian families facing blood cancer.

Donations can still be made via the QR codes on the kids posters in the office.

Unlike some schools, Edgeworth Heights Public School does not have fees for books, technology or specialised teachers. It would be greatly appreciated if the fee/s could be paid by the end of Term 1.
