Regentville Public School Newsletter

Week 2 Term 3 2020

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,

We have had a wonderful start to Term 3, here at Regentville Public School. Our students have returned refreshed from their holiday break and are ready for a busy and productive Term 3!

I am sure you have been keeping a close eye on the COVID-19 situation here in NSW, as well as in Victoria. As I have been out and about in the school, I have been impressed by how well our community is following the safety rules and I thank you for this. Please be aware, however, that changes may happen quickly in our school, as we respond to the guidelines from the department. To assist with us keeping within the current guidelines, please be reminded of the following:

·         It is a strong school preference for parents to drop-off and pick-up their child at the school gate or Kiss & Drop zones. There is teacher supervision in the school playground every morning from 8.35am, and teacher supervision at the school gates every afternoon until 3.15pm to assist with this.

·         Parents may briefly enter the school site for drop-off and pick-up, if their child cannot enter and exit the school independently.

·         Teachers will not be available onsite for parent contact, except under exceptional circumstances. Please do not approach the teachers either at their classrooms or in the playground. If you need to get an urgent message to your child’s class teacher, please phone the office or write a short note.

·         The safe distancing rule of 1.5 metres between adults must be adhered to at all times, including at the school gate.

·         Any parent who needs to access the school office, must call the office to organise a suitable time.

·         Parents should not enter the school office for the late arrival or early pick up of their child, except in exceptional circumstances. Please phone the school office if needed.

Education Week

With the current restrictions in place, Education Week will be a low-key event here at school; however, I would like to acknowledge that it is an important week for everyone in schools. This year’s theme is Learning Together. Our teachers will recognise the Education Week theme in their classrooms in the coming week.

Uniforms

Our lost property tub is starting to overflow with uniform items that do not have names on them! Please make sure these items find their way back to their owner, by ensuring your child’s name is written clearly somewhere on everything they bring to school! I would also like to encourage every one of our students to wear the correct school uniform to school every day, including the correct jumper and hat. Your support in this is most appreciated!

Kindy transition

To better support our Kindy 2021 students and their families, we are extending our transition to school program. The Kindy transition program will start with parent and child interviews with Mrs Haran, starting within the next 3 weeks. If you have not already done so, please contact the office if you have a child starting Kindy in 2021! Thanks!

Staff Changes

As you may be aware, Mrs Leaney has resumed her part-time work arrangement this term. Mrs Leaney will continue on 2A for Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mrs Albert, one of our regular teachers, will be teaching 2A on Thursdays and Fridays.

Have a lovely week!

Mrs Jennifer Thompson

Absent Notes

It is a legal requirement for schools to keep accurate rolls. In order to do this we need to receive a note from parents for student absences. This note needs to state the nature of the absence ie. sickness, family business, short leave. The notes are to be returned within three days of the absence. After that, a reminder note will be sent home from the class teacher. The Skoolbag app has an easy to use function that allows you to generate an online note we print off  to give to teachers.

Please note that if you are planning to take your children out of the school for overseas holidays, you will need to complete an application form well prior to the date of travel. We will then return a signed certificate for you to have with you in case it is required by authorities at the airport.

Premier's Sporting Challenge 2020

Our school is participating in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge for 2020. We encourage you to join your children in being physically active. Why not go for a walk along the beach? Or take a trip to Flip Out!

Why is physical activity so important?

Research shows physical activity improves physical fitness, sleep, mental health and wellbeing, bone and functional health and contributes to maintaining a healthy weight.

Term 3 - Points to remember

  • Social distancing is still in place - 1.5 metres at all times
  • Parents on site - only if necessary for drop off and pick up.
  • Teachers contact - via phone, email, Dojo, video conference - No face to face meetings/discussions
  • Students with flu like symptoms - stay at home
  • Positive result from COVID test - report it immediately to the principal

Used toys looking for another place to play!

If you have some toys that are in good condition and not being used, our students could use them for sand play in one of the two sandpits at out school. The same goes for things like toy cars and mats that may be lying around the house looking for another playmate or two.

If you can help with either of these please contact us through the front office.

From the Office

Contact Details

It is important that the contact details we have on file for parents are up to date. This includes phone numbers, email addresses and emergency contact numbers. We would appreciate a call from you if your details have recently changed.

Lost Property

It is that time of year when students are wearing their school jumpers and school jackets to keep warm in the morning. As the day warms up, they take off their school jumper or school jacket and leave it "somewhere".

If your child's name is clearly labelled on the school jumper or school jacket, we can make sure that your child is reunited with it.

Late Arrival/Early Leavers

A reminder that if your child arrives after the morning bell at 9am please call the front office on 47331615 and a staff member will come out to pick up your child at the gate.

If your child has to leave prior to the 3pm bell they will need to report to the office to receive an early leaver note. NB. The early leaving does not include the current afternoon arrangement due to COVID-19.

This procedure is a legal requirement that is necessary to keep our class rolls accurate.
