School Values: Respect, Responsibility, Creativity, Integrity, Teamwork

Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

I couldn’t be happier with the restart of the Foundation to Year Two students yesterday.  The outdoor drop off points seemed to work well and once the 9:00am bell rang all students were inside and settled beautifully.  Well done everyone!  We will continue to review our processes over the next week and this will support us to welcome our year three to six students on 9 June.

Outside School Hours Care

With the start of face to face teaching I am happy to report that our before and after school care service is open. Please confirm your booking with Vicki prior to sending your child by emailing Vicki at oshp@macedonps.vic.edu.au.  It is important that we know who is attending to maintain the correct child to educator ratios.

2021 Enrolment teleconference tours

In these strange times we’re having to adapt a lot of processes and our 2021 enrolment tours are no exception.  I will be running school tours via teleconferencing as of next week until the end of term two.  If you are aware of prospective parents in the local area, please let them know about this opportunity.  The tours are a chance to chat privately with me and ask any questions.  I will share a presentation highlighting the key features of our education program, the facilities and our beautiful grounds.  Tours can be booked in by calling the front office on 03 5426 1518 or emailing macedon.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

Year Six – Year Seven Transition Forms

Year six parents should have received their year six to seven transition form in the mail recently.  Can all parents of a year six student please ensure they return these forms to the front office by Friday 29 May.  It is important that we receive these forms for all students, regardless of whether the secondary school they are attending is government or non-government.

School Damage

It’s with sadness that I report that we have had a higher than usual amount of damage to the school on the weekends recently.  Unfortunately we have had a streak of these nuisance events over the last four weekends.  Our neighbours have reported young people, possibly teenagers, running on the roof at all hours of the day and in the middle of the night.  There was also a report of someone on the roof with a bike.  We have had damage such as two broken security lights, broken picnic benches, damaged sky lights, damage to the maze in Middle Gully and smashed bottles and litter left scattered around the basketball court.  We have reported the higher levels of activity to the Department of Education and the police.  We’re seeking your support in keeping our school safe.  If you see or hear anything please report it to the police and the school by emailing macedon.ps@education.vic.gov.au .

Warm regards,

Matthew Forrest

Principal

Waru is back at school! He’s looking forward to seeing you all.

Talent Show!

All entries will need to be submitted in digital form. They must be clearly marked with age group, name and category in which you are competing. This can be done via Seesaw, email or USB dropped to school. This competition will remain a digital one.

Please have your entry in by close of business, the last day of term 2 (Friday June 26).

 Drama

Drama can come in many forms, you can create and perform something yourself, or you could choose a piece of work. Some ideas include; a play, a story from a book, a poem, monologue or a duologue (one person acting alone on stage or two together). This will depend on how many people you have in your family. You may have enough for a whole play? Don’t forget the work we have done this semester on how to use your voice to create a character.

Dance

Dance is a fun one. It is such a free way to express yourself. You have the choice to either create something and perform it, or choose something that has already been choreographed. Perhaps you know ballet and would like to showcase what you can do?

Think also about the dances we did in Term 1. You could always film yourself doing one of those. I will also allow circus skills in this area of the competition.

Remember, these are just ideas, you can be as creative as you want!

Music

For all of our musicians out there, this one's for you. Have you been dying to show us a hidden talent? Now is your chance. If you play an instrument you might want to record yourself doing a solo. If you have someone to jam with….. go ahead.

Perhaps you’ve written a song and you finally have a chance to show someone. Or…. Maybe you love singing covers (someone else’s songs), that’s fine too!

Multi Media

There are so many of you that have computer and technology skills that I could only dream of. This particular category is open to all kinds of ideas - as long as you use multi-media. As the name implies, multimedia using multiple forms of media. This could include; text, graphics, audio, video, etc. For example, a presentation involving audio and video clips would be considered a "multimedia presentation."

Maybe you have directed your own short film or film clip? Now is your chance to show it. It could be as simple as a PowerPoint presentation.

Script Writing

Do you prefer to be behind the camera instead of in front? Script writing is a great way to get your creative juices flowing. You could choose to write a traditional play or perhaps a monologue of duologue?

Who knows, if it’s good enough, we might want to use it in class!

If you are in P-2, one to two pages is enough. Older students and beyond, write as much as you want - this could be in the form of a narrative story.

These are just ideas, feel free to be creative and come up with something totally unique!

Remember everyone, whatever category you wish to present, must be G rated and family friendly.

Reconciliation Week 27 May - 3 June

This week is Reconciliation week. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
