St Mary's Newsletter

Term 4 - Week 6 (18 November 2022)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Values in Focus: Honesty

We rely on each other to act truthfully.

Gospel: Luke 23: 35-43:

In Sunday’s Gospel, we are reminded of the promise of paradise.  Earthly kings often crave power and wealth.  They rule with fear and domination.  Jesus’ kingdom is one of peace and justice.  He rules with love and mercy.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Our Year Three students will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Sunday.  They will then lead the 10.30am Mass. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please keep the children, their families, Miss Walsh and Fr Andrew in your prayers.

Year One Assembly

The Year One students did a fantastic job of presenting the assembly this morning, they read beautifully and their retell of the story of The Gruffalo was very entertaining. Well done to the Year One students, Mrs Grant, Mrs Dolton and Mrs Jefferys.

PP-2 Swimming Lessons

Our Pre-primary to Year Two students will begin swimming lessons on Monday for a fortnight.  Hopefully the weather warms up to make it favourable for being in the pool.

2023 Leadership Speeches

The Year Five students have been busily working on their speeches for Head Boy and Head Girl in 2023.  They will share their speeches on Monday at 9.00am in the Hall with the Year Three to Six students, who will then vote (along with staff) for one girl and one boy to be the leaders of St Mary’s next year.  Head Boy and Head Girl will be announced at the School Concert on Wednesday, 30 November.

ACM

A reminder that the St Mary’s School ACM will be held on Monday night at 7.00pm in the Hall.  This will be preceded by the extra-ordinary meeting of the P&F at 6.15pm in the Library.  Mr Andy Di Carlantonio will be joining us for the ACM (he will be at St Mary’s on Monday and Tuesday) and we will be having drinks and nibbles after the ACM to give the community a chance to meet him before he begins in 2023.

Work Experience

We welcome back ex St Mary’s student, Chloe Lane, who will be on work experience next week.  Chloe will be in Year 4/5, Year One and helping Mrs Crees with PE.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,

Ms Adriana Coniglio

Principal

Physical Education

Yesterday we held our Interschool Swimming Carnival against Merredin College and Central Wheatbelt. With the event postponed in Term One due to COVID, the competitors had the added challenges of minimal preparation and cooler temperatures. Despite this, all students competed to the very best of their ability showing great determination and sportsmanship throughout the day.

Our wonderful athletes fought hard all day to swim their way to victory, taking out the shield with a huge 542 points, Central Wheatbelt came in 2nd place on 353 points, Merredin College close behind in 3rd on 320 points

We would like to thank the School Staff and parent helpers from all of the schools involved. Without all of their hard work and support we would not be able to hold events like these.

Thank you to the Merredin Swimming Club for the use of the lane ropes and starter, and with all of your help on the day in setting up and packing away. To the St Mary’s P & F, thank you for coordinating the sausage sizzle lunch, and lastly a special thankyou to Judy Jefferies, who, at last minute, took on the role of Pool Manager to allow the event to go ahead. We are incredibly appreciative of your support!
