Term 3 Week 10: 19th - 23rd September 2022

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 10 Term 3

Make My Day

Last week I had an enormous number of amazing students from across the school share their work. Teachers know this is the best part of my job! Featured this week are Corben from 5/6P, Luca and Kaia from KP and class 2M. Corben came to demonstrate his addition skills. He used the strategy of counting on from the largest number and he could not be tricked! Corben would be very useful to help me track my spending when I am at the Supermaket! Luca and Kaia shared their descriptive sentences about a butterfly. They not only used excellent describing words but also capital letters, full stops and finger spacing, Well done you are both showing you are ready for Year 1. I also was invited to visit 2M to listen to their persuasive writing. The topic was ‘Students should/should not have to wear school uniform”. I heard arguments both for and against, with some students becoming very passionate with the presentation of their writing showing they would be excellent debaters in their senior years, great job 2M.

Tell Them From Me

Our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted over Term 3 and early Term 4. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

Information about the survey is available at: education.nsw.gov.au/ttfm. To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/rkpxy

The survey is available in 23 languages.

Lost Property

We have accumulated many items in our lost property. We ask any parents, who would like to check for their child’s lost property, to come into school, at 3.15 tomorrow Tuesday 20th or Wednesday 21st September. Please remember to report through the school office on arrival.

Holidays

It is hard to believe but we are into our final week of Term 3 for 2022! This Friday 23rd September we will be recognising our student achievements at the Celebration Assembly. Family members have been invited to come along to help celebrate with us. Swansea High School Captains will be speaking at the assembly and sharing some important messages with our students.

Friday 23rd is the final school day for Term 3, with students returning Monday 10th October. I wish everyone a safe and happy break and will look forward to a busy but productive Term 4!

Class of the Week

4C

4C have been working hard all term in writing and geography. The students have demonstrated persistence in improving the structure of their informative texts. We have written many texts about animals, people and places. It is great to see the big improvements in text structure, the amount of information written and the beautiful cursive handwriting.

For our geography studies over the last couple of weeks, the students have been doing research into some of the natural wonders in China. They created a brochure on their chosen natural wonder with all of the information and photos they found.

Students are now currently researching an environment somewhere in the world and creating an informative text through Book Creator of their chosen location. I am already seeing wonderful books being put together about the Amazon Rainforest, the Sahara Desert and the Blue Mountains, just to name a few.

I am so proud of the excellent work they are producing, and their enthusiasm and commitment to these tasks.

Other School News

Art Club

The students in Art Club have put in a lot of effort towards making paper cities and towns this term.

We aimed to use bright, bold, contrasting colours and they turned out amazing!

If any student in years 3-6 are interested in joining Art Club, please come and see Mrs Carlyle. We will be starting a new project in Term 4.

Check in Assessment for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6

Dear parents and carers,

During Term 3 and Term 4 students will participate in the Check-in assessment.

The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.

The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with a disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom.

  • The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 6 students during Term 3, Weeks 8 - 10.
  • The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 3, 4 and 5 students during Term 4 Weeks 1 – 4.
  • All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Year 6 students will also complete a writing task

Grow Your Mind

Another strength you can grow is CREATIVITY.

Being creative means to think of new ways to do things in the classroom, on the playground or at home.

When we show CREATIVITY we use our ELEPHANT and WISE OWL. This strength is important for our mental health because it helps us find our state of ‘flow’.

You can display CREATIVITY by:

  • thinking of multiple ways to solve a problem
  • making up interesting games and exploring different ways to play them
  • writing or drawing something that is unique, just like you
  • starting a new creative activity like singing in the choir, playing a musical instrument or performing in drama

"Creativity doesn't wait for that perfect moment. It creates its own perfect moments out of ordinary ones."

Ordering Uniforms

The Uniform Shop operates online all year round – orders placed via QKR will be delivered to classrooms throughout the week.  Alternatively, you can request that orders are left at the office for you to collect.

If your uniforms are too big/too small, please email us and let us know - we can arrange an exchange to ensure that you have the right ones.  Or if you have ANY questions regarding uniforms prior to ordering - please let us know via email and we are happy to help! cavesuniformshop@gmail.com

Uniform Shop – TERM 4 OPENING HOURS

We will be reopening the School Uniform Shop on site for Term 4 2022 – on Wednesday mornings from 8:45am – 9:30am.  This is mainly to assist our new Kindy families with planning their uniform needs – but all families are welcome!

Price Increase

Our Uniform Suppliers have passed on a number of price increases in the past 2 years which we avoided passing on to our families.  However, with a further price rise we have reviewed all prices and there are some changes to come into effect from Term 4 2022.

There is some good news to go with this – we have negotiated a price DROP for our sport shirts so they will actually reduce in price!!

Our school uniform range is still great value and we are significantly cheaper than other retailers on comparable items – eg. our school polos will be $30 from Term 4 whilst Lowes are selling them for $39.

To Order Uniforms

Place your order via the Qkr! App (quick, simple & our preferred option)

**You can link a credit card or debit card to the Qkr! App

If you need an order form to order/pay via direct deposit OR have ANY questions regarding uniforms prior to ordering - please let us know via email and we are happy to help! cavesuniformshop@gmail.com

If your uniforms are too big/too small, please email us and let us know - we can arrange an exchange to ensure that you have the right ones.
