PRINCIPAL'S NEWS

Dear Parents

Welcome back to school and to term 3.  It has been really pleasing seeing all the smiles and excitement of the children going to swimming and I cannot express to you the underlying importance of this activity to you.  The objective is to teach your children to swim but there are a dozen other really important aspects.  Planning and being organised with a change of clothes, being aware of the conditions and having a warm jumper, being able to have a change of routine which is unusual and challenging, getting on a bus, going to an environment that is different and I could go on.  The unintended lessons are equally as important as learning to swim and develops resilience that is essential as they get older.

Next week we will have the second Vaccination Clinic in the Undercover area at 2.50pm till 4.50pm.  At this clinic various influenza vaccines will also be available.  The WA Department of Health is providing free influenza vaccinations for all Western Australians until 31 July 2022.

WA is facing a potentially severe influenza season following two years of border closures.  This initiative is an extra incentive for the WA community to protect themselves and others against influenza.

The influenza vaccine can be given to individuals from aged 6 months.

This is a time-limited program, and available to people in Western Australia who have not already received the influenza vaccine in 2022.  Once this advices ceases, it reverts back to eligible cohorts which can be found here Influenza (flu) vaccine (healthywa.wa.gov.au)

It is not compulsory and only can be given to a child accompanied by a carer.

ATTENDANCE

Welcome Back

I hope you all had a good holiday break, rested, had fun, slept in and are now ready for Term 3.  There are many things happening this term so remember to:

·         Have regular routines for your child – including bed times, eating, getting up, reading a story to your child at bed time etc.

·         Have plenty of sleep – 10 hours for students is good

·         Limited screen time during the week unless doing Mathletics or SeeSaw activities

·         Eat lots of fruit and vegetables

·         Get plenty of exercise

·         Maintain healthy habits – coughing into your elbow, cleaning your teeth twice a day, staying warm and dry in cold, wet conditions.

·         Take time to relax, meditate, deep breathe.

All these things should help you stay fit and healthy to fight off colds and flu.  Be the best you can be every day.

Swimming

Just a reminder that swimming is on for the next 2 weeks.  Please label all your child’s belongings.  Provide them with something warm to wear on the bus home like a hoodie, dressing gown, oodie.  Give them a plastic bag for wet things and one for their school clothes and underwear.

They will be changing in a nice warm room and the trip home from the pool should not take too long.

Make sure they have their health form and swimming stage form on day one.

Cheers,

Mrs J. LARGE JP

Deputy Principal

HEALTH TIPS

Hand Washing

Washing hands is the easiest way to protect ourselves from contagious diseases, like colds, influenza and gastroenteritis.  Hands should be washed before and after eating or preparing food, after going to the toilet and after nose blowing.

When teaching your child to wash their hands:

·         Use clean water and soap, making sure they cover their hands and wrists.

·         Use a brush to clean under nails if they’re dirty too

·         Dry their hands with something clean (like a paper towel)

Alcohol based sanitisers are useful when soap and water is not available.  Use half a teaspoon of the product and encourage your child to rub their hands together until they’re dry.  If you can see dirt on their hands, it is better to use soap and water.  For more information go to www.healthywa.wa.gov.au

P & C NEWS

UNIFORM SHOP

Apologies for the delay in opening Qkr!  It is now open with the new prices and order forms  have been updated.  I had hoped that would be all the increases we would have, however we have had further increases advised already.  We had only a minor price increase in 2020 and before that, the last increase was 2015.  We have been fortunate to be able to keep our prices the same for so long.

We will gradually increase the prices as necessary in the future.

Kind regards

Sue Giles
