Dear Jamberoo Public School Community,
How fantastic have the past two weeks been? Jamberoo Public School thrives in all settings, and we have had fantastic opportunities to share our learning in open classrooms.
Grandparents day
Thank you to the large number of grandparents who were able to attend "Grandparents Day" last Friday. Our special family members were welcomed to the school with a delicious morning tea from our Jamberoo family bakers associated with our current kindergarten class. After this morning's tea, our visitors were invited to join their children in their classrooms for "open classrooms". This provided an excellent opportunity for your students to share how they learn and what they are most proud of in their classroom.
P&C Barbecue
The P&C hosted a free sausage sizzle for everyone on this day. This yummy lunch was cooked to perfection by our P&C volunteers and left us feeling full and satisfied, and ready for our most anticipated Book Character Parade.
Book Character Parade.
Congratulations to all our students for their enthusiasm and extreme efforts in putting together their costumes. A random selection of students were asked to speak about their costumes, and there was a selection team who chose one award winner from each class. In addition, they received a book prize. Students from Kindergarten and year 1 received a book from the book fair. In contrast, students from years 2-6 received a signed RA Spratt book, whom we had the opportunity to meet a few weeks prior.
The day ended with smiles and a wonderful sense of fulfilment in everyone. Thank you so much to all who attended and how the day played out.
Debating
Congratulations to Mahala, Reece, Tessa & Amy for their outstanding efforts in the Premier's debating challenge this year. On Thursday, the team successfully defeated Milton Public School in a very sophisticated debate about rewarding the 'good' kids by letting them finish school early on a Friday. They now pass into the Illawarra South East Premiers Debating grand final to earn their place in the state. Thank you to Mrs Behl-Shanks and Mrs Kirby for your work with these speakers.
COVID Update
Last week you may have heard that National Cabinet announced that the isolation period for positive COVID-19 cases would be reduced from 7 days to 5 days from Friday, 9 September, with the following conditions:
- This would apply to people with no symptoms at 5 days.
- 7 days of isolation would remain for workers in high-risk settings, including aged care, disability care and those providing care in the home.
In line with the National Cabinet announcement, our school will apply the following requirements.
All staff, students and visitors who have tested positive for COVID-19 must:
- Complete 5 days of isolation from the date they tested positive
- Be symptom-free before returning to school. If symptoms remain after Day 5, they must continue following NSW Health guidelines to self-isolate and undertake a rapid antigen test.
- Complete a rapid antigen test (RAT) and return a negative result before attending school on Days 6 and 7 after testing positive for COVID-19, and
- Wear a mask on Days 6 and 7 when attending school (for all staff and those students 12 years and older).
Staff and students may use the RAT kits supplied to them by our school early this term for the purpose of testing before attending school on Days 6 and 7. If you require additional RAT kits, please contact our front office, which can provide or organise other kits.
Due to the higher risk of severe illness for some students and staff members in our school, the 7-day isolation period will also remain for assisted transport and overnight excursions.]
All staff, students and visitors who test positive for COVID-19 should continue to follow the NSW Health guidelinesExternal link in addition to the department's Response protocols and Advice for families.
Finally, please be reminded that anyone displaying even the mildest symptoms should stay at home, even if they return a negative RAT or PCR test. By staying home if unwell, you'll help keep our school community safe and help us prioritise face-to-face learning throughout the rest of this term and into Term 4.
Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation.
Regards,
Ms Greta Lewis
