Education Week Visit
This year the theme of Education Week has been Creating Futures – Education Changes Lives and has been a celebration of how we empower students, to develop the skills they need, to take control of their lives, now and for the future.
This week we have opened our doors to parents, grandparents and friends to show you the impact of public education on the lives of your children and grandchildren and how they are taking up the opportunities that Drummoyne Public School offers, to create their futures.
This was recognised by Mr Simon Paterson, Director Educational Leadership for Iron Cove network of schools, who addressed the parent assembly on Tuesday's Open Day and visited classrooms, including the 1A classroom with Ms Apostolopoulos. (See photograph)
The talents of our students especially in the creative and performing arts have been on display during the parent assemblies, in open classrooms and through the Art Showcase.
Everyday we see education changing lives, one step at a time.
We see children taking risks in their learning and showing courage. We know that the courage to speak up in class is not always a roar but sometimes a quiet voice at the end of the day, saying I will try again tomorrow.
At Drummoyne we see the best in public education and this week we have celebrated the achievements of our students and our teachers.
Our commitment, and our challenge everyday, is to create a safe, caring and supportive learning environment, where everyone can come to understand important things about themselves and the world.
Where students can appreciate and respect the ways in which we are different from one another and recognise and value the profound ways that we’re all exactly the same, and from that, emerge to not just make their way in the world, but to make their mark on the world for good and to live conscious of the fact that we will solve the problems of the future when we come together.
At Drummoyne PS, the united efforts of students, teachers, and families for over 100 years have helped create an outstanding school community.
Thank you for your service to the school, for the sacrifices you make and for your time at the open days, knowing that your involvement helps to build a brighter future for your children.
Children’s Day
On Thursday, Australia celebrated National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.
Since 1988, the 4th August was chosen to celebrate the birthdays of First Nations children taken from their families at a young age known to us as the Stolen Generations.
Children’s Day is a chance for all Australians to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, languages and the rich culture of all First Nations Australians who have provided love and care for their children for thousands of years.
Today, we celebrated Children’s Day, through hosting an incursion with: performances by the Koomurri Aboriginal Dance troupe, a Smoking ceremony, sharing cultural Artefacts and Weaponry, Aboriginal face painting, Didgeridoo & Story telling.
