Principal's Message

Presentation Day Assembly

This coming Wednesday, we have the opportunity to pause, reflect on the first full year of face-to-face teaching since 2019 and celebrate the successes of our students at school this year. To do this once again in person as a whole school will be so special and something to look forward to. We understand that not all families are able to attend an assembly of this nature during the day but look forward to seeing those of you who can. All of the details that you need to know about the assembly can be found further on in today’s newsletter; please take a few moments to read and review this important information. I’m looking forward to enjoying a great morning altogether on Wednesday.

Sports House Captains 2023

Following House meetings and elections last Monday, we congratulate the following students elected to lead their respective sports houses in 2023:

COOK – Tihami Kazi and Sebella Rogers

DAVID – William Corbin and Sophie Agland

HUNTER – William Buttifant and Zara Hobson

SHORTLAND – Tyler Johnson and Sophie Balks

These students will be presented with their badges at the Presentation Day Assembly on Wednesday.

Thank you, Miss Jones

After nearly two years as a member of the Lambton PS team, I have the unenviable task of sharing the happy/sad news that we will be farewelling the fabulous Miss Teegan Jones at the end of the 2022 school year. Miss Jones has made the difficult decision to leave Newcastle and move closer to her family in Queensland and has been successful securing a teaching position for 2023 at Grand Avenue State School near the outer suburbs of Brisbane. In her time at Lambton, Miss Jones has built a reputation amongst staff, students and families of being a highly professional teacher who loves what she does and who builds strong, positive relationships with the students that she teaches. Her contributions to the Stage 1 team, Starstruck, and the lunch time dance activities have won her great respect. We thank her for the wonderful efforts over the past 2 years and wish her all the very best for her new role. Our loss is Grand Avenue’s gain.

I hope to see you on Presentation Day. Have a great week!

    Presentation Day – Important Reminders

    Presentation Day – Important Reminders

We look forward to parents and carers joining us on Wednesday as we come together as a community to celebrate our student’s successes. Our School Band, Junior and Senior Choirs and Star Struck dance group will all be performing as part of our special day.

This year our Presentation Day assembly will be held in the Multi-Purpose Centre (Hall) at Lambton High School to ensure there is plenty of room for our students, staff and school community.  Students should come to school in the morning wearing full school uniform and will travel to and from Lambton High School by bus with their peers and teachers.  For this formal occasion, Year 6 students must wear their regular uniform, NOT their Year 6 T-shirt.

Students in Years 3-6 will have rolls marked at 9:00 am and travel by bus leaving school at 9:05am.  The buses will return to collect K – 2 students at 9:15am. Parents and carers should make their way to Lambton High and be seated in time for a 9:30am start. We anticipate that the assembly will conclude at approximately 11:30am.

If your child will be receiving an award on Presentation Day you should have received a notification of this via email so that you were able to make arrangements to join us on the day. In doing this, we would respectfully ask that you do not disclose to your child that they are to receive an award, we would like the announcements of awards on the day to be a surprise to the students. Morning tea will be provided for the award recipients and their guests at Lambton High School after the assembly.

The canteen will be closed for recess orders, all students need to ensure they bring something to eat at recess.  The canteen are accepting lunch orders and will be open during lunch as per normal routine.

We remind parents and carers that students will not be able to leave the venue with their parents, all students will return to school with their teacher on the bus. If parents wish to take their child home after they arrive back at school, they need to come to the office and sign them out, however, it will be marked as an unjustified absence as normal classes will continue after this event.

As per guidelines for school attendance, students and/or parents and carers who are feeling unwell or are showing any symptoms of COVID-19 should not attend Presentation Day. Students who are deemed as household contacts should undertake a rapid antigen test on Wednesday morning and return a negative result prior to attending the event.

We hope you can join us to celebrate our student’s achievements at our 2022 Presentation Day Assembly, regardless of whether your child is receiving an award or not.

    Swimming Carnival 2023

Our 2023 Swimming Carnival for all students in Years 3 – 6 in 2023 will be held at the Forum Aquatic Centre, Newcastle University on Wednesday 8 February 2023. The carnival is primarily for students in Years 3 – 6, however if your child will be in Year 2 next year and turns 8 in 2023, they may be eligible to attend. To be eligible, these students must be able to competently swim 50m and be an active member of a swimming club. Yr 2 students who attend, will compete in their 50m freestyle race, which is the first race on the day, and must return to school with their parent directly after this race. Yr 2 students who do not meet this eligibility will be required to attend school with the remainder of K-2, for a normal day of school.

Permission notes for the 2023 swimming carnival will be sent home this week and be due back by Thursday 15 December.  We apologise for the additional expense at this time of year however the carnival will be held 7 days from when students return in 2023. This will not leave a lot of time to finalise the organisational planning for the carnival.  Families requiring additional time to make payment are asked to complete permission indicating your child will be attending and contact the office to make arrangements to pay when school returns.

    Year 6 Farewell - Tuesday 6 December

Our highly anticipated Year 6 Farewell will be held at Wallsend Diggers this Tuesday 6 December beginning at 6.00pm.

The dress code for the evening is smart casual and we would ask parents to use appropriate discretion with the selection of clothing items, shoes and accessories.

The order of events for the evening is as follows:

    •   6.00pm - event starts at venue

    •   6.00pm - 6:45pm (approx)  parents stay for the formalities

    •    9.00pm  parents and carers return to collect students

Thank you to the Year 6 Farewell Committee for their organisation in conjunction with the school to ensure a wonderful end of year for our senior students.

    Donations needed of Second-hand Items

We are always in need of more 2nd hand uniforms to assist families through this transitional period before our new uniform is available for purchase. If you have uniforms that still have good life in them or your child is leaving the school (eg Year 6) at the end of the year, we would sincerely appreciate donations of these items. Please wash the items before sending them in to the school office.

    Christmas Scripture Assembly

This coming Thursday 8 December, all of the students from K-6 that have attended Christian Scripture throughout 2022 will be attending a special Christmas Scripture assembly in the hall at 12:40pm. Students in Year 3-6 that attend ethics or who attend neither will continue with their normal program. If your child participates in scripture and you do not wish for them to attend this assembly, please contact the office by Wednesday to update us on your wishes.

This will be the last week of scripture and ethics lessons for 2022. We sincerely thank our amazing scripture and ethics volunteers for another year of dedicated service and commitment to our students. We appreciate all that you have done for us.

    Christmas cards to friends

The Christmas Card tradition is beginning to gather speed with lots of cards being given to friends (and teachers) each day. Please remember that students have until Wednesday 14 December to ‘post’ their cards in the box to be delivered by the Christmas Elves.

    School Assembly

The final school assembly for 2022 is scheduled to take place in the hall on Thursday 8 December and will be led by our 2022 School Captains. Family and friends are invited to join us if you can.

    Last School Day of 2022

Just a reminder that the students last day of the 2022 school year is Friday 16 December.

    • Students in Years 1-6 return for the commencement of 2023 on Tuesday 31 January.
    • Kindergarten 2023 commence on Thursday 2 February.

    Happy Holidays!

    Student Movements 2023

Thank you to those families that contacted us recently to let us know their child will be leaving or moving to another school in 2023. If any other families learn between now and the end of the year that their child will need to move, we would appreciate you letting us know early, as it influences our enrolment and therefore our class structures and 2023 planning. The best way to notify us of a move, is simply to email the office.

    Covid Update

The number of people contracting the Covid-19 virus has been rising again over the past week with health authorities encouraging citizens to be extra vigilant with adopting the measures that we know to be Covid-smart. We remind all families that if children are unwell, they should not attend school until they are well and symptom free.

Additional RAT tests were distributed via the eldest children in each family last week. We encourage all families to continue using these at home, when students present with cold or flu like symptoms.

COVID-smart measures to continue throughout Term 4

    • From Week 1, Monday 10 October, the following COVID-smart measures will remain in place in our schools:
    • Students and staff must stay at home if unwell and test for COVID-19 if showing any symptoms
    • Extra cleaning of bathrooms, drinking fountains and other high touch areas will continue in Term 4
    • Masks continue to be strongly encouraged for all staff, students and school visitors, particularly when indoors and when physical distancing is not possible. Masks continue to be mandatory for all staff working with students at greater risk of severe illness if they were to get COVID-19.
    • Household or close contacts who are symptom-free can attend mainstream schools if they receive a negative RAT result every day for 5 school days and wear a mask (staff and high school students) while on site.
    • Natural ventilation will be maintained with windows and doors open whenever possible, including when cooling/heating systems are in use.
    • Additional circuit breaker measures continue to be implemented at schools when the risk of transmission within the school or wider community is considered high. Some schools may be directed to temporarily reintroduce additional COVID-19 measures including mandatory mask-wearing to minimise transmission risks.
    • Refer to COVID-smart measures for further details.
