Principal's Report - Term 4, Week 9

Dear parents and carers,

It's hard to believe we are at the end of another school year. In the coming days we have several events to celebrate the end of year.

This week, we have a number of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)  reward activities including;

  • Make-It Room Lunch (Monday)
  • Computer Room Lunch (Wednesday)
  • Principals Morning Tea    (Thursday)
  • Canteen Lunch and Movie Lunch Friday

Well done to all the students who earned these special awards in Term 4.

We will hold our Y6 Farewell dinner at FC Social on Friday evening. Thank you Miss Andrews for the incredible amount of work you have put into arranging what I know will be a delightful and memorable evening for our students.

Next week, on Wednesday, will be our whole school party day and our Y6 mini-fete.  I'd like to thank  our teachers for preparing what promises to be a fun packed day  for our students, and our P&C fundraisers for providing the lunch that students will enjoy on the day.

Presentation Day will be held in our COLA next Tuesday from 9:00-11:00am. In addition to presenting our end of year awards and trophies, there will be performances from our bands and classes. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Our preschool students will have their graduation days on Wednesday December 14 and Friday December 16. On Thursday December 15, we will be meeting our new preschoolers for 2023.

Finally, Year 6 will have their graduation assembly on Thursday December 15, and we will clap them out for one final farewell on the afternoon of December 16.

Preschool Update

I am very pleased to announce that Ms Yuji Mo, an experienced early childhood educator has been appointed as our new, permanent preschool teacher, commencing in 2023. Thank you to our P&C representative, Lauren Duffy, and our teacher representative, Amanda Green for being part of our merit selection panel.

Last week, Early Learning attended our school for an annual compliance check.  We are continuing to meet the national quality standards. The Early Learning inspector spoke very highly of Miss Doyles rapport with our students, the supervision standards and her chlld centered approach to planning safe and enriching activities for all our learners.

Amy is a valued member of our teaching team, and while she won't be teaching our preschool next year, you will still see her at school. Amy will moving across to one of our K-6 classes next year.

Finally, our preschool has been accepted into a pilot of Early Learning's new  Self-assessment and Planning App for Department of Education preschools. This will provide Yuji and I the opportunity to work closely with a team from Early Learning who will assist us to review and continuously improve our practices, while streamlining our administration tasks.

School Oval Upgrades

If you heard excited screaming from our office at around 7pm on Monday evening, it was because I'd just been informed by our P&C president, Maryanne Thompson, that our grant application to have a portable toilet block installed on the school oval had been successful.

Thank you Maryanne, and your team for the countless hours you have put in to make this happen.  The toilet facility means we will finally be able to offer an extended range of activities on our oval that will benefit not only our school, but also our wider community.

This week, a new concrete slab was poured under the COLA on our oval, which will also do much to improve its  amenity. Next year, we plan to have artificial turf installed over the slab to provide a soft, green  shaded space for students and other users.

Share our Space in the School Holidays

Our oval  will be open for use by the community throughout the summer holidays, including public holidays,  from 8:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m each day.  Access will be via the entry gate on Elonera Street. A security guard will lock and unlock the gate each day.

Bins will be emptied daily, but there will be no access to toilets.

Further information about this will be included in next week's mini- newsletter that will include some final notices and information for the coming year.

Best wishes

Ms Campbell

PSSA Netball

Congratulations to our PSSA netball teams for 2022. Both our Junior and Senior teams won their final round of PSSA. Juniors 11-2, Seniors 4-0.

While we may have not had the best luck with the weather and ground conditions this year, each game the students played, they were enthusiastic and represented Rydalmere PS with pride. They showed great sportsmanship and teamwork!

Thank you to the parents that also came and supported our teams.

Miss Andrews

AFL Primary Play

In Week 6 and 7 of this term, students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participated in some AFL skills sessions. Led by volunteer coaches from AFL NSW, students learnt the basics of passing, kicking and movement in AFL.

Community Hub News

Dear Families,

Can you believe it is already the end of the year?

Hub has been providing different programs throughout the year. Have you been able to attend any of them? Do you have any new ideas for the hub?

We would be grateful if you could provide your ideas and feedback using the google form below.

https://forms.gle/enTXwWDbdYs3iQDJ6

I would love to take this opportunity to thank all our partner organisations, SDN Children services, Reclink, Rydalmere Artist Studios, Parramatta Community College, Hills community Aid, Fitted for Work, Woolworths Ermington and school staff, P & C for their continued support. I am also very grateful to Ramya, our English Class facilitator for her patience and endurance in supporting our ladies gain more confidence in the language. This would have not been easily achieved without our lovely childminders Najia, Suraiya and Roya who took care of children during the English classes. We are proud to announce that we will be running 2 levels of English classes next year – one for beginners and another for conversational English.

We had 15 to 20 families attending the End of Year celebration. We played games, made craft and danced to some nice tunes. Thanks everyone for bringing in food to share. It is lovely to be a part of this community.

Last session of Playgroup and dance fitness will happen on 14th and 16th of December respectively. Hub will remain closed during the school holidays. Hub programs will resume from second week of February. For more updates, please follow our Facebook page.

Hub wishes all celebrating families Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Stay safe and well during these holidays. See you all in 2023.

Cheers,

Seetha.
