POWERFUL LEARNERS

SMARTaR Goals

SMARTaR goals are established for every child in the site improvement priority areas of writing and numeracy. Students who know what they need to learn next are key partners in their learning and this helps them to see themselves as their own teacher. Continuous review and checking in with each child about their goals and progress is important. At three way interviews these goals will be shared with families and we look forward to sharing these so you can support your child to practise their goals at home. Evidence shows that goals, when set and reviewed as an integrated part of the learning and teaching program, have a positive effect size and are a powerful way for students to be involved in their learning.

Check out Bailey and how he is being a powerful learner! By creating and reviewing SMARTaR goals with his teacher Mrs Edwards, Bailey will be clear about what he has to do, to improve his skills as a writer. We look forward to sharing Bailey’s writing when he has remembered to use capital letters at the start of each sentence. Aim high Bailey- you can do it!

DO4 BOOKMAKING

Ms Pojer’s Year 1 students have been getting all excited about making their own books. The students came up with their own book focus and content. This student received a special Principal's award for her outstanding book.

Please enjoy looking through the image gallery of her work.

VISUAL ARTS CORNER

VISUAL ARTS YEAR 1-7 UPDATE

All students in Yr1 to Yr7 have been learning about colour theory and line in Visual Arts. From primary, secondary and tertiary colour exploration, to a monochromatic value scale and analogous colours, students have been creating some amazing pieces of art! Their stunning work so far has been influenced by a range of local and international artists: Romero Britto, Roy Lichtenstein, Mulga the artist, Jen Stark, Eloise Renouf, Jen Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Wassily Kandinsky, Rene Magritte, Hokusai, Sarah Coey and Elizabeth Close. Keep an eye out for some of the students creations around the school!

Thanks to the amazing support and fundraising from last years Art Exhibition, I have been able to purchase items for the Visual Art program that would have otherwise been out of reach. Lightboxes, texture rubbing plates, pattern scrapers, Indian ink, bingo daubers, a guillotine, water colour liquid paints, painting stampers and rollers and splatter screens are some of the items that have been purchased so far. Items for printing and clay work are next on my list for the remainder of the money raised.

If you or a family member has a particular creative skill set or interest in Visual Art and would like to help out (Volunteers clearance is required), please contact me via email or come and see me in the Art room (Turtle Unit) Tuesday - Friday.

Lastly, don't forget to connect and check out the Visual Art SeeSaw app for updates on what is happening in the Art room each week!

Happy creating!

NOVA 919 - COMPETITION WINNERS

NITRO CIRCUS COMES TO WLSS

A massive thank you to Lisa Zappia for entering the NOVA 919 competition on the schools behalf, and an exciting win for the whole school.

The crew from NITRO CIRCUS came to WLSS on Wednesday 11th March, 2020 from 11 - 12pm, and set up ramps and jumps on the asphalt.  The whole school got the opportunity to watch these two wheeled daredevils perform the most sensational tricks on their BMX bikes, scooters and skateboards.

From flips and jumps to sky high, aerial acrobatics, they had the whole school 'oohing', 'ahhing' and cheering the house down.  We even had some very brave teachers put their lives on the line to become a human jump! Totally scary and exciting.

An EPIC treat for the whole school!  Enjoy the photo gallery of the NITRO CIRCUS in action on the day.
