Term 2 Week 10

Principal’s Message

Wow - what a week! It has been a very busy term and Week 10 has been no exception. On Tuesday we took 210 student to McDonald Jones Stadium to support our Stage 3 Open Rugby League team where they played Anna Bay Public School in the final of the Knights Knockout competition. It was a very exciting day and the amazing Dudley School spirit was on show for all to see. I know that when I arrived in the car park I could hear our students chanting from inside the stadium!

Congratulations to the boys, Mr Kiely, Mr Nugus and Mr Winter for supporting the team as coaches, managers and water boys. We have received confirmation today that we are entered in the NSW finals in Sydney early next term.

Asset Update

A note should come home today with information about the asset work that is being completed across the school. There are changes to some classroom locations as these rooms are renovated. Staff and students who have moved back into the new rooms are noticing the improved learning environment.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.

Term 3 commences on Tuesday 23 July  for students.

We have had some amazing athletes doing some amazing things in the past 2-3 weeks.

Isabelle Spruce

In week 8 Issy travelled to Albury to compete in the Hunter team at the NSW PSSA State Championships for basketball. Her mum said it was a tough week but the Hunter team played fair and hard during the competition. Issy helped her team come 11th overall in the State.

A quote from Issy:

“It was such a fun week I will always remember it!”

Zach Nugus and Toby Hendrickse

In the same week 8, these 2 boys were lucky enough that they didn’t have to travel anywhere to compete in the NSW PSSA State Championships for the Hunter Under 11 Rugby League Competition as it was held at Charlestown. The boys played extremely well, I was lucky enough to see 2 of their games and they were outstanding. The team came 11th overall.

A quote from Zach:

“I had heaps of fun at the state carnival with everyone in the team, and playing with a lot of very good footy players. It was a really good experience.”

A quote from Toby:

“I had the best 3 days of my life playing with the best of the best footy players in the State. It was the best time ever!”

Fletcher O’Doherty

In week 9 Fletcher travelled to Penrith to compete in the NSW State Championships for the Hunter Under 12 Rugby League Competition. For the first time in 26 years, the Hunter team won the event, defeating every other team sometimes twice. We received an email from the manager of the team that said:

‘I am writing to acknowledge the way in which Fletcher represented not only the Hunter region, but Dudley Public School. He demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and showed the utmost respect for his teammates and coaches throughout the carnival. As a member of the team, Fletcher showed commitment and dedication to attend numerous training sessions on weekends. It has been a pleasure to mentor such a polite and hard-working young man.’

 A quote from Fletcher:

“I had a great three days at the state carnival playing with a bunch of great players. It was the first time since 1993 the Hunter team has won the carnival!”

A huge congratulations to these athletes, you have made Dudley Public School and its community extremely proud.

Knight Knock Out Grand Final

On Tuesday 2 July Dudley Public School competed in the 5/6 Knights Knockout Grand Final held at McDonald Jones Stadium. We played against Anna Bay Public School in a close fought game. Fortunately, we won the match and are now the ‘All Schools Newcastle Knights Open Primary B Division Premiers’. It is the first time in Dudley Public’s history that the school has held this title. We would like to again congratulate the team and say a big thank you to all members of the school community who came along to support us. The atmosphere you created was tremendous and the boys thoroughly enjoyed having everyone there. The school community is very proud of the team’s efforts and the way they represented the school on and off the field. We would like to thank Danny Nugus for giving up countless hours of his time to coach, Simon Winter for his assistance on the day, the parent helpers who assisted with team transportation and Mr Kiely for organising and managing the school team.

Thank you to our Sponsors

Dudley Public School would like to say a huge thank you to Porter Veritas Conveyancing and Mantle's Landscaping for sponsoring our new school sports jerseys. I'm sure you will agree the boys looked fantastic representing our school. These Jersey's will be used for a multiple of sports when representing Dudley Public School at sporting events.

P&C News

YOUR VOTE NEEDED FOR EXCITING PLAYGROUND PLANS

Dudley PS is eligible for up to $200,000 in funding though the NSW Government’s My Community Project scheme.   We’ve submitted an exciting proposal for installation of a soft-fall rubber surface on the grassed hill separating the upper and lower playgrounds. The project will provide a safe, interactive climbing play area, together with a collaborative Indigenous art installation.

This soft-fall surface is popular in playgrounds and would be like the one at Blackbutt.   But we need your help to make it happen!

We need as many votes as possible, but you can only vote once so please ask friends, family and neighbours to help DPS secure this much-needed funding.

To vote, log into your MyServiceNSW Account . If you don’t have an account, sign up on the Service NSW website, call 13 77 88 or visit a Service NSW Centre.

You can find information on creating a MyServiceNSW Account at service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/sign-myservicensw-account

You will also need to provide your residential address.

This is your chance to help decide the projects in our electorate that get funding. Statewide voting goes live on Monday 15 July and is open to anyone aged 16 years or over. Voting closes on 15 August .

We will post reminders and updates on the P&C Facebook page and the Skoolbag App.  Successful projects will be announced later this year.
