Sutton Public School

Week 3 Term 3 - 7th August

From the Principal

We have celebrated Education week with our outdoor art display, our online posts and the launch of our Satellite project with a visit from Mr Damon Oliver to engage the students in our quest to raise awareness of the plight of the superb parrot in this innovative way.  Please read the update below from Miss Clark and Mrs Deacon to find out more about this ambitious project.  I can see that many of you have viewed Miss Reilly’s wonderful Facebook post celebrating her year 1 and 2 students working together developing their numeracy skills.  It’s a really joyful recognition of some of our Sutton stars. You can also view photos on the school website

P&C

Our first meeting for Term 3 was held on Thursday night. Thankyou to our team for organising this and we are looking at ways to continue our meetings – be it face-to-face or online in this new COVID world.  If you are interested in becoming a member of the P&C please do not hesitate to contact the school or any members of the committee to organise your membership.

I am grateful to have the support of the association as we begin planning for our 150th celebration.  I am also very appreciative of the time and energy our parents and community members are giving to supporting our students, staff and community with new activities and positive experiences to give us all a much needed boost.

Please view the almost 80 entries in the Sutton Photography Competition and make sure you submit a recommendation for the People’s Choice Award.  We look for to announcing the winners.  Watch skoolbag for updates.

 Covid Update

I remind parents and carers of the following COVID -19 restrictions

  • non-essential visitors are still not permitted on school grounds or at    school events – this includes parents and carers unless specifically approved by the principal
  • all adults must maintain physical distance from each other (1.5m) including teachers and support staff, and parents
  • parents should ensure school pick up and drop off arrangements enable them to physically distance from one another and from staff.

We as a school community need to remain vigilant and take all precautions to minimise the risk of transmission of COVID-19. When physical distancing is combined with good personal hygiene, the spread of illness and infection can be slowed. Please be mindful of these things in an effort to keep us all safe

Sutton’s Satellite Selfie

Have you ever taken a selfie? What if you could take one from space? Wonder no more because during National Science Week this August we will be taking a selfie from space at Sutton Public School!

During National Science Week this year, a satellite will fly over the ACT and surrounding area and will capture an image of as much of Canberra and the people in it as possible to create a time-capsule image of Australia's Capital from above.

Our school will be creating a very large image of the superb parrot that will be seen from space. The superb parrot is an endangered species in our area and we want to send up an SOS to save our superb parrot.

The flyover will occur three times on Mon Aug 17, Wed Aug 19, and Fri Aug 21 between 10am and 11am. Keep an eye for our fantastic photo!
