TOKSAVE - Lihir International School

Term 2, Week 2, 2020

From the Principal

Thanks to all the parents, carers and others who have been assisting LIS students with learning at home.  It has been a steep learning curve for the whole school community. The Google Classroom platform has been an excellent resource to allow teachers and students to connect during this time.  Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher if you have any concerns or difficulties.

Please note that although some PNG schools will be opening for a trial period from next Monday, it is expected that LIS will remain closed for the duration of Term 2, unless otherwise directed by Newcrest management.

Parents and carers are reminded to ensure children have adequate break times during the school day. It is also a good idea to limit device and screen time after school hours. Arts and crafts, cooking and gardening are good activities to occupy children and reduce boredom.  Children can also connect with their friends in their Google Classroom Meet link during break times.

Please do not forget to join our virtual assembly at 9am tomorrow. Click on the Meet link in the LIS Assembly classroom in Google Classroom and remember to mute your microphone.

Please contact myself or your child's teachers if you have any queries or concerns regarding your child's education at LIS.

LIS students learning at home.

From the Deputy Principal

As we come to the end of the second week of remote teaching, I am sure everyone is starting to establish routines and become a little more used to this style of teaching and learning.

Remember to include some active activities to help break up the day. This can be as simple as a quick walk or jog, dancing, exercises or a ride on the bike. It is also important to remember healthy eating habits and staying in the routine of eating at recess and lunch rather than grazing across the day.

We would like to see photos of students being involved in a range of activities throughout their day, so please send in any photos of students participating in any extra-curricular activities such as art, construction, cooking, craft, gardening, cultural activities etc.
