A message from Leadership

Welcome to Term 2, it is hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of week 2 already. There have already been some exciting things happening this term, with the Year 6 students attending aquatics at Westlakes earlier in the week (a cold but exciting day from student reports), and School Crossing Monitor training held for students from Year 4 and above last week.

As the weather comes in colder, a reminder to check that your student’s jumpers are named. It is much easier to reunite a misplaced jumper with its owner if it is clearly named. Thank you for your help with this.

This term we also have 8 Preservice Teachers joining us, from both Flinders University and University of South Australia. Preservice teachers will be working with some R/1 and 5/6 classes.

On Monday of this week, I was lucky enough to be able join our volunteer, Hillary and students Netra, Isabel, Marcello, Cherie and Riley. We worked together to harvest corn, clear the garden bed and plant some lettuce and flowering seeds to watch them grow. Our student helpers were excited to be able to take the corn home to try for dinner.

I am looking forward to seeing many of you on Friday morning at our Mother’s Day Breakfast. This will be a great opportunity for families to connect with each other. Thanks to Jane, our PSW and her band of helpers for providing this for us. It is much appreciated. Let’s hope sun shines for us on Friday.

Wishing families a happy Mother’s Day for Sunday.

Walk Safely to School Day

WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 19 MAY 2023 Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking! Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine. You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by: • Walking with them the whole way to school • If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop • If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way. Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 19 MAY 2023! For more information, visit www.walk.com.au
