Students with Cold and Flu Symptoms

This is a reminder that it is essential all families keep their children at home if they have cold or flu symptoms. The Pittwater House Health Centre is sending students home every day that are presenting as being unwell. NSW Health have stated that people with corona-virus may experience symptoms such as:

  • fever
  • respiratory symptoms

     - coughing
     - sore throat
     - shortness of breath.

Other symptoms can include runny nose, acute blocked nose (congestion), headache, muscle or joint pains, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, loss of sense of smell, altered sense of taste, loss of appetite and fatigue.

Therefore, please assist us in preventing the spread of these symptoms amongst our school population by ensuring students with these symptoms do not attend school. Students presenting with these symptoms will be sent home, however, we would rather be proactive about this and ensure students who are unwell do not arrive at school until their symptoms are gone. Students with these symptoms, should also comply with NSW Health advice and get a COVID test.

Years 10 to 12 students who have assessment tasks due are also reminded that this is not a reason to come to school when they are sick. They need to stay home until they have recovered from their symptoms, complete an assessment appeal form with appropriate documentation and communicate with their teacher via email to arrange a new date to complete the task.

Hopefully by following these rules we can reduce the number of students and Staff at Pittwater House who get sick and have to isolate themselves from school.

Road Safety and Parking
We have observed a number of parents using driveways (including school driveways) to make three point turns or drop students off/pick students up and then reversing into oncoming traffic. This is particularly dangerous when visibility is hampered by parked buses or hills, which is definitely the case on Westmoreland Avenue.  Please prioritise safety when in the vicinity of any school and do not turn in these roadways.

Additionally, I would like to remind you of the NSW road rules regarding No Parking and No Stopping/Standing signs.  There are a few of these around the school and we have been advised, particularly in Westmoreland Avenue, that some parents may not be aware of the rules around them.  I have included the rules below for your information.  Please ensure you comply with them to both maintain road safety and avoid potential fines.

No Parking:
You must not stop for more than two minutes in a No Parking area. You must remain in or within 3 metres of the vehicle. Hours of operations may apply to some signs. This means restrictions apply for those times only.

Mobility Parking Permit holders are allowed to park for up to 5 minutes in a No Parking area.

No Stopping/No Standing:
These signs mean that in the area in the direction of the arrow you must not stop your vehicle at any point on the road or kerb, unless there is a medical or other emergency.

Sometimes a no stopping area is indicated by a solid yellow edge line.

Hours of operation may apply to some signs. This means restrictions apply for those times only.

Cancellation of Major Production

We have unfortunately had to cancel our 2021/22 Major Production of ‘High School Musical’ due to several factors related to COVID and the uncertainty of restrictions in the near future.

We know many students had put in considerable time and effort in undertaking the initial audition and preparation process before we were abruptly forced to stop, and we understand the disappointment they will feel at this announcement. In particular, the students who had been appointed a role in the show.

We know that all cast and crew will be able to maintain their enthusiasm for future events. So, no fear, we are already planning for our next event, so get involved with our ensemble program. We have a number of opportunities available for students in the performing arts, such as Dance Troupes, Choirs and Bands.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge the amazing support and dedication of staff, students, and the school community throughout this process.

If you have any questions, please email david.cosentino@tphs.nsw.edu.au
