Principal's Update

Staff Leaving

It is with sadness that I inform our school community that we have a number of staff who are finishing at the end of this term.

·   Lynn Johnson will be leaving Plympton Primary School as a permanent staff member and taking some well-earned leave

·    Tina Bridgland is retiring after many years of service to the Department for Education

·     Megan Mackin is relocating to Western Australia. She has won a permanent teaching position.

·    Lizzie Fiddler is returning to the private education sector.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lynn, Tina, Megan and Lizzie for their commitment to education at Plympton Primary School and wish each of them all the very best in the future. Each of these wonderful staff members have added much value to our school community.

Competition Winners

Last term 13.1 took part in the Metropolitan Fire Service's Schools Fire Safety Program and Competition. The children were asked to design a fire safety poster. Congratulations to Sophia who was the first prize winner in Year 2 and Eshaal was the first prize winner in Year 3. Well done to all the students who participated.

Celebration Concert

Classes are very busy practicing their item for our celebration evening on Monday 12 December. Please make sure this special date is in your calendars. After 2 years we are now able to celebrate with families again. Please see the flyer for the Celebration Night below.

Transition

Both Year 6 students and new Reception children have been involved in transition visits. We have loved getting to know our new Reception children.

If you are moving schools and have not let us know, it is CRTICAL that you do this asap as we are in the final stages of class and teacher allocations. Please email me at Meredith.starkey62@schools.sa.edu.au

If you know of anyone who may have moved in close to where you are living or have been talking about coming to Plympton Primary School again please tell them to contact me as a matter of urgency.

Monday 12 December

Students will be visiting their new classroom and meeting their new teacher on Monday 12 December.

A number of factors are considered when creating classes, including a balance of learning needs, ratios of boys and girls and parent requests.

Sometimes after children visit their new classes, there is some anxiety and generally this is around friends.  Unless, we have made an obvious mistake, we ask families to accept and try the new class. If we move one child, it then has a domino effect and classes become unbalanced. Each child has a minimum of one person that they wanted to be with.

Water Safety at Marion Outdoor Pool

What a week! Started off freezing with gusty winds at Marion Outdoor Pool.

Ended sweltering and feeling very much like summer!

A big thank you to all the instructors who taught the Water Safety program to Plympton Primary School students.

A big thank you to the year 3, 4 and 5 students who showed great effort and resilience at trying new activities as well as being so organised!

Vinnies Christmas Food Drive

SRC are arranging our annual food drive for Vinnies again this year, to support South Australian families in need.

We will be having a Casual Day on Wednesday 7th December, but rather than bringing a gold coin donation, we ask that students donate an item of food. Collection boxes will be in the classrooms

All donations are gratefully accepted, but please think about the types of foods you are donating. Please remember no fresh food e.g. dairy, bread, meat etc. Please donate non-perishable foods such as tins packets etc.

If you would like to make an extra donation there will be a collection box in the front office.

Thank you

Fundraising

Hi All

We are lucky enough to still be receiving donations from families as well as some local organisations for our Christmas Raffle.

We have been fortunate to obtain a signed guernsey from the 2022 AFLW team, a Christmas pack of lights from Bunnings at Edwardstown, vouchers for Natasa Linke’s  store NATASAstudio, and Hayley Moers amazing creations from her store LittleNook. Thank you all so very much.

We are still waiting for more replies.

If you own your own business and can make a donation, or know someone who does or can doorknock and ask businesses if they can help us out then that would be fantastic. If you do so you will need a copy of our authorisation letter signed by Meredith. If you do please email me at pridmorerachel@hotmail.com and I can get it to you.

Please also remember we love items from yourself and your children for all age groups.

If you are still planning on donating something, please bring the item to the Front Office by Monday December 5 so we can organise the raffle prizes.

Thank you and stay well.
